Trying to decide on a pair. I kind of want a pair of Maui Jims. However i have a hard time spending 200 bones on sunglasses. Any thoughts? |

Go get yourself some cheap sunglasses. Besides the really cool ZZ Top reference, cheap sunglasses won't make your wallet hurt when you sit on them, lose them, scratch them, drop them on the concrete when they fall off your face, etc. |

Go to a safety supply shop near you. They sell tinted safety glasses that actually have some decent style to them (ALMOST Oakley-ish) For like $20 |

I had an co-worker who just purchased the Maui Jims and one day he was cleaning them just had running water over them and they broke a part at the bridge. Then he went back to the place he bought them and the store told him to write a letter to the main company to get the warranty work done or have them replaced. He spent like 170.00 on his glasses. I surfed the reviews for him one day when we weren't doing anything and found another review giving a thumb's down on the durability. That's a lot of money for glasses that break easily at the bridge. K |

+1, Drkside, there are plenty of places to get GOOD sunglasses for cheap online. No need to go to the gas station or walmart, better selection online. I found this place http://www.sunglassreplicas.com/ To be very well priced, good quality on the glasses and the categorization makes it easy to find what you want. Still mad my Great Uncle's WW2 raybans getting stolen at a music festival I went to. I have never been able to trust hippies after that. (Message edited by b00stzx3 on March 25, 2010) |

Neato. I'm gonna keep that site in mind, cuz I'm a sucker for cheap shades. The last set of expensive ones that I got (Oakley X-Metals) were forever lost in a drunk waverunner wipeout. I think I was half way across the lake before I figured out they were gone. No floatees or nothin. I'm sure they sank like a stone. So, cheapos it is! |

I used to run a Sunglass Hut. Maui Jim is mostly hype and styling. Best bang for the buck: RayBan Serengeti Revo Gargoyle The Serengeti Vermelion lenses are the best. |

RayBans are the shizzle. They also have a flat earpice that fits well in a helmet. I got a set of Oakleys that I like a lot, but I cannot wear them with the helmet, cause the earpieces are almost as thick as a pencil. Also, be careful and try out before you buy if you get polarized. The tint or anti-for layer on a face shield can make lots of pretty rainbows that are very distracting. (to me.) I'll stick to the Bans from now on. R |

I have both prescription Ray Bans and safety glasses.I don't have the $ to replace the scratched lenses in the Ray Bans,so I'm wearing safety glasses. As Slaughter says, they have some style these days. |

Another vote for the safety glasses. I go down to the local welding supply shop and pick up nice looking glasses in a large variety of tints. If they get lost I don't sweat it. |

I wear Icicles. Also have perscription lenses that your eye doctor can work with. Some what pricey but I've had different brands and these I like the best. This link is my actual pair that I wear. http://www.icicles.com/chromecruiserdiamondplate.a spx |

The biggest problem with cheap sunglasses is the piss poor optics that accompany them. Anybody can make a flat lens with decent visual clarity, but wrap around lenses are a different story Oakley has some of the best optics on the market. Briko is even better, but unfortunately they are no longer imported to the US. I have a few pair that I would be very bummed if something happened to. |

I have Oakley's Iv used them for about 13 years and will never wear anything else. There durable IMO. They have the same safety standards that safety glasses have and look damn good. And for bonus points you can go to there site and build you some to match the colors of your bike heres the link.... http://www.oakley.com/custom By the way if you spend alot for them you make it a point to look after them. (Message edited by joshinga on March 25, 2010) and they do prescription (Message edited by joshinga on March 25, 2010) |

THe best thing about about the Maui Jims' is that the (waddya call'em) ear stems are extremely flexible and thin so they fit into the helmet without notice or discomfort. I have the Ti variants |

Go to a safety supply shop near you. They sell tinted safety glasses that actually have some decent style to them (ALMOST Oakley-ish) For like $20 +1 We tend to forget that we frequently run @ slow speeds w/ our face shields up. Most sunglasses are better than no protection but nut nearly the protection of safety glasses. And, oh yeh, DO NOT GET POLARIZED} GLASSES - w/ your face shield down looking @ an oil slick thru- polarized glasses becomes the 60's trip you never had time to take. |

Oakley Jawbones fit nice inside a helmet and the lenses can be switched out in a minute. Works nice for the day rides that don't get you home until after dark. |

my oakley gascans fit really nice in my helmet, so do the half/flak jackets, the bright side to the half/flak jackets is that there's no bottom so its EASY to read the gauges and everything...but mine got stolen so i got gascans, and i got them custom made to match my bike white frames w/ blue lenses and i wanted blue or red emblems but the order got messed up and i got chrome, but it looks good lol I LOVE OAKELY'S!!! they're all ill wear!! DO NOT GET POLARIZED GLASSES I wear polarized glasses exclusively, never have any problem, in fact I see everything in stark detail. |

I have a pair of RayBan Aviators that I bought for $60 in 1993, and they're still awesome. I look like Maverick every time I put them on... But seriously, as long as you take care of good sunglasses, they will take care of you. |

What ever you do, DO NOT GET SERENGETI GLASSES with the Driver Lense. If you do, you will never be the same. I've been wearing them for over 15 years, I've tried others but always come back to the Drivers. They are particularly great for bike riding, they brink a sharpness and clarity to the road on a hot day. They filter out some of the blues and sharpen everything else. There is some good science behind it although it's been a long time since I looked it up. The Serengeti's are about $125 or so. In order to really try them out, you have to go outside. Find a store that will let you try them outside. You will not be disappointed. Brad |
