I'm 29 and I remember being a teenager but for some reason I just can't help but laugh at the kids with their chevy cobalts with fart pipes or hondas or whatever. Why do they always try to race me? My ulysses is pretty fast but come on! Seriously? WTF is wrong with kids these days? Maybe to much TV.

Just venting and hoping to god my kids don't turn out that way

I'm 28 and remember being a teenager... If my vehicle had a gas pedal, and someone pulled up next to me at I red light I wanted to race them even if I knew I was going to loose. Guess it's no difference with today's teens.

P.S. the other day a teen gave the hand signal for me to pop a wheelie... and I gave in to the pressure and lifted the front tire. (safely of course)

LOL I had a kid in a ricer try that with me.

I let him get about 1/8th mile up.

I hammered it and passed him, off the throttle, and waving and point at the throttle as to say, "You suck HAHA!"

I am not a fan of the fart can myself. Why they would try to race a bike is beyond me. Yeah, I was a kid too. Had a glasspack on my 79 Chevy Malibu, with a 2.9 (?) V6. Oh geez.

I'm with you guys. 28 and ask myself "Was I that bad?" My sister is 18 and I see all her friends thinking their king shit! I just think, they wouldn't last in our day! I was into trucks though. Had to trade my last baby in for a grocery getter. About to have a kid. Responsiblity sucks! I had ONE car. 22's, system, neons. It lasted a whole 6mths until a buddy totaled it. I actually hope these kid's kids will be even worse. My wife will be graduating soon with a Shrink degree. cha ching$$$$

I bought a beater car because my Dodge was unreliable and this piece of crap has a fart can. I find when ever I try to pass someone they step on the gas and wont let me pass .
I take of from the light fast and even old men take off faster than I this sucks. The 1125R on the other hand I have no problem staying faster than the flow of traffic.

"Kids nowadays...."

You have any idea how old that is?

Of course it's true. We were absolute indecipherable monsters to our parents, and they, theirs. I suppose before the turn of the century things were different........more polite, more civilized. A good cat o nine tails, that's what they need....

The way kids just toss their clones away. I mean we had respect for our parents money. They bought you a clone, and you took care of it, since they weren't going to get you a new one. Oh yeah, the spoiled rich kids with their German clones... they had a new one every year...

Of course we were that bad. Still are, some of us, I see.

Reminds me of a time I'm on a GT380, my Bud's on a Norton Combat Commando, and we're on Lake avenue ( Of Foreigner's "Rev on the Red Line" musical fame ) and take off the light in a "spirited" manner, but by no means racing. I'm revving like a chain saw, pouring out smoke, the Norton's just breathing well, and I hear what must be a Chevy v-8 revving way high. I look over, and a bitchin' Camaro is right beside us, driver determined, chin out, passenger wide eyed and straight arming the dash. I point, my bud laughs and hits it. I follow, and we never saw the Camaro again... ( the statute of limitations is over for that, right?)

I had an early 00's mustang GT act "playful" at a stoplight the other night.. next to me on my X1 w/ 1250 kit.

I had fun.. just stared at him through his passenger window until it was time to shift into second, then lifted the front tire a few inches and poured on the steam. He was maybe mid 20's like me so had the decency to respond with a humble smile and a wave instead of getting pissed off like some younger kids would do.

A few months ago I had to trade my gas-sipping '87 civic hatchback for a more reliable '98 mustang. It's a V6 auto - just basic transportation, but kids are always wanting to race away from stoplights. I'm not a big fan of mustangs anyway (except for Eleanor) and attracting competition from every ricer in town isn't making me like this car any better..

well if you do it right then it's fairly respectable. A nicely setup 4 bangers are pretty cool. Your right it's not necessarily all younger kids it's just the majority is someone who watched fast and the furious and then runs to target and gets a cardboard wing and puts in on there car.

When I was 19 I had a 76 Ford Bronco. Stroked 302 - 307. Aluminum forged pistons, RV Crank, Edelbrock performer intake, 650cfm 4 barrel with dual glass packs exiting before the rear tires. That thing shook windows in houses! Stompin little 4 bangers was a breeze with that thing. The good ol' days!

We have a 97 Honda Civic 4 door now. Gets close to 40mpg. I'll have the kids in the car with the new baby girl in her car-seat in the back. Still - complete morons will pull up beside me and see I drive a Honda and try and race me. Stupid people shouldn't breed!

As of now, I have SVT body conversion, CAI, tuned, test pipe and exhaust mani. Sounds good to me. But yeah, screw the ricers. Pep Boy specials, they drive like jackasses through traffic to.

I had two cars at the same time when I was in high. One was a 1977 "Blaze Orange" AMC Gremlin with a little 2.0L 4sp. The other was a 1970 Chevelle SS Convertible, 396, BorgWarner T10 4sp, Jackson timing gears. I didn't race either one...

I was sitting at a stop light in my 427 Cobra and some asian kid in a honda civic pulled up next to me and gave me the eye. I'm thinking "This kid ain't that stupid, is he?" Well he was. At the next light he pulls up along side me and says "Hey, I had to try."

Ahhh, to be young and dumb again.

OK, for all of you that are putting down the exhausts on these cars... How many of you have a stock muffler on your Buell?

Any of you with any aftermarket muffler (including the race muffler) can stop complaining.

I recently bought a '94 Roadmaster wagon which has the LT1 engine. It weighs at least 4600 pounds but accelerates unbelievably quickly. It's just plain fun. I ought to be too old for this c**p but I WILL NOT let a rice-burner go unpassed. "Move aside punk, American car coming through".

All you young 20 somethings, just wait til you hit your mid 40s early 50s & your kids are growing/grown up.

That's when you realise what your poor parents went through.

AND THEN YOU BECOME THEM!!!

As my 82 year old Dad is fond of saying, his sole remaining ambition in life is to live long enough to be as much trouble to his kids as they were to him.
Looking back at my youth, he's going to have to live a damn long time to make that one.

Well now that 30 is fast approaching I can hardly say that I'm a saint. But with a younger brother that is 22 I find almost every one of his friends arrogant and cocky. I then think back, was that how I was when I was drinking and having a good time? Scary!!! Now I'm much happier by a fire and having a beer then in a bar getting nuts. Good news is I got all my fast driving, drag racing, mud playing out of me so now I can enjoy life. Notice I didn’t say s curves !!!

after awhile growing up, i couldnt get people to race me anymore. grew up small town iowa. small towns surrounding it.

had a 69rs/ss camaro 396 rock crusher 4spd 4.11's

72ss nova. built 327. 350th and 4.56's

84 shortbox regular cab s10. looked stock except for dual exhaust(full mufflered) and some rims. 383 stroker with 350th and 4.11's. give/take 425 horse at the wheels.

then my 84 toyota supra. lowered a few inches with the widest stickiest tires i could fit. man did that thing handle great.

it got to the point, that in order to get someone to race i started racing people in reverse in the supra. funny part was i could still win the majority of the time

OK, 50 is fast approaching, in my twenties I had a '78 Sunbird (think Vega wagon). Cam,roller valve train, 427SD valves, headwork, custom pistons, lowered (1 coil off each corner) 1&1/4" front and 7/8" sway bars, glass nose, Trans Am shaker scoop... all with a 151 Iron Duke 4banger. When the exhaust rotted out I ran an open pipe about 40" long for a year or two. The neighbors all knew when I left for work. I was their alarm clock. Now I like QuIeT, even my ironhead has baffles. But I don't hold it against the 'kids' with their toys so long as the only thing they've done isn't the loud exhaust and ugly rims on their mom's old car. A good sounding engine thats loud is OK with me. In my day the last thing you would ever do is advertise a slow car's presence. Now it's a noisy exhaust, 40" subwoofers, clear lenses, tires that flatten if they hit a nickle in the street, cheesey 'ground effects' and no performance mods, pretty much in that order too. I have seen some beautifuly crafted front drive rice rods running serious times at the track, that's cool... We bought 15 - 20 year old cars that were reliable, everywhere and cheap (mustangs, novas, chevelles, darts, dusters), what fits that catagory now? Civics and camrys, sentras and starions?
If everyone wasn't buying Jap cars for the last quarter century, kids would be hopping up malibus, sebrings and fiestas?

While I was in high school I had a '68 Beetle, chrome wheels, header, bug spray Holly. Bad ass little noise making, attention getting, POS. It would do 105 mph, not bad for a 53hp airhead with a few mods.

When I was nineteen I had a '71 Camaro. I built a nasty 327, turbo 400 trans, shift kit, B&M shifter, Ford 9" floater rear out of a Grand National race car, with five gear sets. It would top out at 140 mph and on the 1/4 mile local drag strip it ran 11.30 at 105 mph. Most of the bikes of the time had a difficult time trying to keep up. I had that car for almost nine years.

When I was twenty I also had a Yamaha TT 500. I was stubborn enough to not allow anyone on any dirt bike to beat on my home turf. It would run 90 mph on the railroad beds, did not matter what gear it was in on hill climbs it would just spin faster. Doing dirt drags, it ate all of the two stroke race bikes of the time. I ran about even with them on an old enduro track.

I also had a new CB750F Honda in '79. The first year for their double OH cam arrangement. It topped out at 122 mph, ran the same times and speeds in the 1/4 as my Camaro did, and was dead even with a buddies '76 KZ1000.

And then came a month of speeding tickets, four in twenty days. That was when I built the first race car of my own, for the dirt tracks to vent my need for speed.

I went through my older son and his buddies thinking that a four cyl Ranger, and Nissan PU lowered with a fart can was a motorhead vehicle. So I put headers and side pipes, cam, lifters, intake and a big ass Holly on my G20 van that had my then stock 400 in it, that engine I still use in my Jeep CJ7 now. That stupid full size van with 308 gears beat a hopped up '71 350 auto Chevelle, and ran dead even with a new '96 Mustang GT in the 1/8 mile. Sure did eat gas though.

That Caddy is badass! I've got a 93 Deville, front wheel drive, 170K miles. I can still roast those tires. I think the exhaust has just kind of fallen off. Sounds mean with that 4.9 litre rippin down the back roads. It's my "dont' act my age" car
