Time to do my forks and I knew that some have used a ratchet strap to compress fork springs as in this link...

I also saw where some had deformed the spacer tubes where the hook was attached.

Here's my cheap and quick solution made from a piece of 1/4 inch steel bar formed with a vice and hammer in just a couple of minutes. The pics tell the story and it worked great!

There is hardly any preload on the spacers.
I used a bent coat hanger to do the same thing as pictured above.

1/4 inch rod is a bit overkill, but it's the first thing that I found laying around.

I used an Allen wrench in the hole with a vise grip on the Allen as a handle. Worked well.
