This is my '71 CJ7. This picture is from about seven years ago. Its the only pictures of it I found in my office.
406 Chevrolet small block, 4 spd Jeep/Ford trans, 300 transfer, stock axles, 4" suspension mount location lift. I built the engine twelve years ago, back when I built the Jeep. It is bored with stock dished pistons, crank, rods, and cam. It makes over 400 ft lbs of torque at about 3,800 rpm with a Rochester two barrel on it. With stock 3.23 gears it goes more places idling than most stock Jeeps do WFO. Three years ago my nephew talked me into welding up the stock AMC 20 rear gears to go to Tellico's Slick Rock. I knew the only thing keeping the stock axles alive was being able to spin the 33's. He insisted. Broke the rear pinion off. It would not roll forward, so I drove it backwards for about six of the twelve miles back towards civilization, where I ripped the front drive shaft out of it. From there it was towed by two rock crawling Toyotas that had it end up with three flat tires, bent tie rods, broken front spindle arm, both drive shafts out, and a front brake hose ripped off. Other than that, not a scratch. It has been parked in my shed since that day. I have obtained a 6 bolt Chev heavy half ton drive train for it. I will be running an automatic trans and 35" tires and three more inches of lift next time out. |

Hey Brad, I have an '86 XL250 also, but I may be too old and out of shape to do anymore than trail ride it. If you ever get out this way remind me to get out the video of the Jeep gone vertical with all four wheels in the air. |

I've owned 1 Wrangler, 2 Cherokees, 1 Liberty and 2 Grand Cherokees and loved them all. The Wrangler was the most fun to drive.. The Liberty was a nice ride, too. The seating is more upright like a Wrangler whereby the Grand Cherokee is more car like. A friend has a new Rubicon and its vastly improved over my old YJ. Leaf springs are gone from the entire lineup resulting in an improved ride. |

Never had a Wrangler...But at one point I owned 3 Cherokees, and 2 Comanches. One of the Cherokees and one of the Comanches were kick ass bad. Not rock crawler bad...but offroad mud eatin' bad. The Cherokee has a cameo appearance in one of the Trucks Gone Wild videos . |
