Good day everyone,
I will be at Ft. McCoy from Feb 28th till March 28th for BNOC Phase II and III. 4 of us are going to drive out from PA so we have a set of wheels while we are there. Is there anyone who knows the area? We were wondering if there are any good bars, pubs, museums, etc within an hours drive.
Thanks,
Brian

I love Ft McCoy, been many years since I have been there though, but Sparta is a nice little town just down the road, Polaks Pizza was a great bar and great food, you have to try their Potato skins, best I have had. Tomah is also a few miles away, to the left out of the main gate (Sparta is to the right) IIRC. LaCrosse is about 30 miles away. UofW LaCrosse is there, tons and tons of bars. its on the Mississippi river and there is a nice park just over the river in Minnesota. I deployed for Desert Storm from McCoy also did 88M BNOC Phase 2 & 3 there. Have a good time, damn now I want to go back.

Hey Brian. If you do get a chance to come down to Madison I can promise to show you around... it is about two hours southeast of Ft. McCoy... also Devil's Lake State Park is worth a hike through as well... about 1 hour southeast of Ft. McCoy.

When my dad was in the Army and now with one of my best friends who is in the National Guard stationed out of there, they said they always went into Wisconsin Dells to get into trouble. I guess there is a bar there that the Army guys go to. Depending on the time of the year the Dells has plenty to do and see...especially of the female variety in the summer!!

If your in the Dells go have a Swig @ Nigs. Also Chubbies is a good strip club.

i went there one time for annual training when i was a reservist and remember getting really drunk at the hotel there and waking up curled up to a little trash can in my room that was full of vomit. I had a good time there but don't remember there being much there.

I am glad I don't drink anymore! Don't get me wrong, I am always up for a good time... especially with handsome soldiers... but that is too too funny.

All of the above is good advice. Having lived in or near all of the afore mentioned places, LaCrosse is going to be your best bet the Dells being second because of the time of the year. I do not know if LaCrosse can still claim to have the most bars per capita, but they did when I was there in the 1990's. I am only about an hour and half away so if you are really hard up for a tour guide let me know!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
Cataract, yeah I did phase I in Oct 07, it was a freakin blast. Phase II and III got cut because we were deployed so I rescheduled it for March 2010. I have an E-7 slot at Battalion waiting on me as thier targeting NCO. Guess I am out of the field after 11 years, and running a desk here in short order...
Wilson, I am not sure if we could stop on the way out, but maybe on the way back through. I we will be done on the 25th.
Char and m2statz, if you could, please email me your phone numbers. I am not sure how much free time we will have, and if we will have internet connection.
We greatly appreciate it, thanks everyone
Brian
