.. what the 'rules' are re: the forum sponsors, and mentioning companies that aren't sponsors? I'm new here, and I seem to see quite a few threads in my travels throughout the threads where people get their peepees slapped for mentioning companies who aren't sponsors. Or is it just me? Is this 'allowed'? The reason I ask is I'm looking for a chin spoiler for my bike. Found a company that sells them (company named elsewhere on the site I've noticed, but don't know if they're a sponsor per se), and said company would offer a discount on multiple units. I'd mention it to see if theres any interest in a group buy on here, but I don't know if thats not allowed. I'm a newb, I don't want to break the rules. Can anyone provide some guidance? |

A link to the rules is at the bottom of every page. Long story short, you can talk about any product that you want. There is two or 3 exceptions to the rule, and it will be obvious when you try and post and its censored out. The problem comes when people start advertising products for sale. The board advertisers pay to have that right, so naturally we can't just let any random schmuck come in and start selling stuff, as that wouldn't be fair to those who paid. If you have a box of old parts you want to get rid of, we have a classifieds section. If you are making mufflers and other do-dads in your garage and want to sell them here, you would need to become a sponsor. Now for your example with the chin spoiler, you can start a thread linking to it, asking questions and such. As long as it dosen't sound like your selling the product, you can post all you want. About the group buy, thats another sponsorship right. You may be able to get American Sport Bike or one of the other sponsors to do the dirty work for you and get it done. American Sport Bike did a group buy on 1125R mufflers a few months ago. Most of the sponsors are listed here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/17143.html?1266435684 |

Ah, thanks Froggy. I just want to be sure I don't step on any toes... was just looking at chin spoilers, as they cost a fortune, and a bulk buy would save myself (and others some cash). No affiliation to any company selling them whatsoever. I'm going to check out that sponsor list |

You might talk with Al at American Sport Bike, American Sport Bike, and see if he'd be willing to carry that company's product. He'd be willing to help organize the group buy, AND you'd be supporting a BW board sponsor. |

It really IS pretty simple. I talk pretty openly about people's stuff that I have used on the race bike. I just don't get into promoting them. If somebody is looking at suspension upgrades, I'll have information and costs. If somebody is looking at beefing up a pre-2008 XB, I've got options there too. I just don't promote them UNLESS the information is relevant to a discussion. EVEN THOUGH these vendors are well known to many people here, are VERY Buell-friendly and are definitely on everybody's "good guy list" on Badweb (including Blake), they are not sponsors so I kinda keep it on the down low unless somebody asks specific questions. Having parts/products sold through one of our sponsors IS a good way to have this done. However, there are LOTS of folks selling marginal quality fiberglass stuff "cheap" and Al won't carry or sell stuff at American Sport Bike unless it is clearly quality stuff. |
