I wish I could tell you, but I think I can help you anyway. Use a small drill bit and an easy out, then replace the evil fasteners with allen bolts. |

It's cheaper to buy the correct torx head then to buy an Eazy Out, which I don't have. I've already tried the tried and true trick of using a flathead driver and an allen head. Not working. |

If they're already stripped, drill the heads off. They're only tight because of the friction/corrosion between the cover and the back side of the screw head. Once the head is removed, the threaded part will back right out using only your fingers. And replace with allen head machine screws. |

I use T-20, T-21, whatever it takes. |

I assume that if someone asks how to get the derby cover off, the screws are already stripped. My bad. |

I'm not sure about those tubers. It could be a T27. If not, needle nose vise grips and an air chisel. |

I wish someone would answer his original question about what size bit to use instead of continually posting T27! T27! |

I wish someone would answer his original question about what size bit to use instead of continually posting T27! T27! OK, that would be good. Is it a size issue? Would bigger be better? |

It's not really the size, it's more how you wield the tool. If you go about it carefully, you can get them to strip without even touching them. Otherwise, if you screw them a certain way, they will strip. Tight is good. If they are too tight, though, they'll strip again, but all you will end up doing is holding your tool in your hand, frustrated, staring at your stripped screw. This knowledge was passed on to me by Allen Phillips, who had a screw loose. (Message edited by fahren on February 18, 2010) |

You know; I once used a T-27 Torx bit to take my derby cover off. |

Now I rarely have a problem retightening the T27 torx screws especially when using the proper sized T-27 torx bit, but I do have problem with removing them when I retighten them too tight, then I have to get out a drill bit and remove the head off the screw. I believe the drill I use has been marked "T-27 torx bit head remover" but I'm not sure, I will let you know when I get back to the garage on Saturday. I do know that if you use a smaller Torx bit than the correct size, such as using a T-25 Torx bit on a T-27 Torx head screw, you will round it off hopelessly. |

The quad seal is a controlled depth o-ring and if IDIOTS didn't over tighten the fasteners in the first place others wouldn't have fastener removal problems . |

T27 is about the correct size to clear out my ear wax. (Gotta be careful when digging in there though) |
