I've been looking at helmets recently and plan on replacing my current RF-1000 at least by next spring. It's almost 4 years old and doesn't really need replacing but I've always heard that 5 years is the limit. Anyone here have the Shoei RF-1100 or Bell Star? I'm attracted to both of these helmets because of their apparent focus on a minimal amount of crap on the outside of the shell that can generate turbulence, and the way the latching mechanisms are made to seal the shield really well when in the fully closed position. Both helmets list in the $500 range, and I'd love to find an alternative with similar features for less $$$. If nothing else, I'll sit and wait for a good deal to come along. I've seen the Stars on closeout for $300 before, and I'm sure some colors of the RF-1100 will be sold cheaper as well before long. |

I have a Bell Star and can HIGHLY recommend it. Light weight, very aerodynamic and super high quality not to mention comfortable. The ventilation is probably the best out in the market right now. You can also get them on closeout for under $200.00 which makes them an absolute steal. http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/brands/Bell?utm _source=bing&utm_medium=ppc&utm_campaign=bing_prod ucts |

Thanks for the link Bosh, I didn't know the stars were quite that cheap yet. I've had my eye on the matte black one, but for $200 I think I could settle for the Venom paint scheme. Just need to find a place to try one on first. The local BMW/Ducati/MV shop is listed as a dealer but I've already looked there and they don't have any Bells on hand. My RF-1000 fits great, but I had to get a large shell size and put medium cheek pads in it to achieve that perfect fit. Medium shells have always put pressure just above my hairline which gets painful after a couple hours, and the large cheekpads allowed the helmet to move around every time I looked over my shoulder. |

Philip, I bought a Star last spring. Ventilation is second to none but the trade off is its noisy. Very aerodynamic,no buffeting. |

I bought a brand new RF-1100 from an online shop for $315 ( shipped ) I ran my RF-1000 for about 4 years and the newer model is even better! I would buy the 1100 again in a heartbeat! My 1000 had a couple small air leaks on cold days, but the 1100 is pretty much leak free with the shield design it has. |

Ordered an RF-1100 today. I tried to find a Bell Star, but the only listed distributor in Oklahoma City didn't have them on hand and to say the least, didn't have good things to say about them. I love my RF-1000 so already trust the Shoei brand. Can't wait till the new one gets here! Thanks for the info guys. |
