I'm on the Celebrity Solstice cruising the Caribbean. Found this in the lunch buffet so I HAD to have it:

Okra Curry

CURRIED OKRA!! That's a new way to eat it. Not too shabby either. That's the curried okra on the left, and a pork curry on the right.

There's a place called Pops in Arcadia, OK (just north of OKC) and they fry the okra whole instead of cutting it first. I had my doubts at first sight, but after one bite I've decided it's the best I've ever had.

If any of you pass through central Oklahoma - stop by Pops for the fried okra! Oh, might want to try one of the hundreds of flavors of soda "pop" as well..

Are those cigarette ashes in the plate?

(That somehow would be fitting)

Cigarette ashes in the plate, breaded/fried okra and maybe a Twinkie. Complete meal... except the after dinner drink - a "LITE" beer.

By the way, yesterday we were docked in Puerto Rico, and the first thing I saw when I left the pier and got onto the main street was a Buell Ulysses chained to a pole. I knew I was amongst friends!

Oh, did I forget to mention that eating pickled okra and drinking a Sam Adams while preparing that soup enhances the overall experience?

By the way, those aren't cigarette ashes... they're left over (crushed) watermelon seeds.

I know that Indian dishes often use okra as a "thickening agent." This is one of the few times the okra was recognizable, though.

I LOVE a good, HOT vindaloo. One of these days I'll take a "Phaal Challenge" but I have to work my way up there.
