MILWAUKEE (February 2, 2010) – Harley-Davidson today announced it will donate 28 new Buell and Harley-Davidson motorcycles to assist with earthquake disaster relief and stabilization efforts in Haiti. The motorcycles are being shipped from Motor Company facilities to the Dominican Republic, where Harley-Davidson dealership organization MagnaMotors will facilitate direct delivery to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti. “Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this devastating disaster in Haiti,” said Rod Copes, Sr. Vice President of International Sales, Marketing and Business Development for Harley-Davidson. “As the relief and stabilization efforts continue, motorcycles can often offer a higher degree of maneuverability and access than other types of vehicles.” The motorcycles will remain in Haiti as a permanent donation to the government. Harley-Davidson Motor Company produces heavyweight custom, cruiser and touring motorcycles and offers a complete line of Harley-Davidson motorcycle parts, accessories, riding gear and apparel, and general merchandise. For more information, visit Harley-Davidson's Web site at www.harley-davidson.com. Notice at the begining of the article that is says "28 Buell and hd" bikes... so in my mind it is a way for the moco to offload some of the excess Buells, and there probably will only be a couple of hd chrome barges in that "28" what do you think? |

Tax write off... donation. What the crap are they going to do with motorcycles? More than likely they will get stolen and parted out, have you seen the vehicles running up and down the streets? I mean, good thought behind it, nice effort. I am store sore about HD...they could send me a check for 10 grand and it wouldn't make me feel any better about the employees and 26 years of history... |

I think its a repost In all seriousness, I think it is ridiculous, as odds are these bikes will be given to the president and other high ups to enjoy, and not be use for anything utilitarian. GM donated a handful of Hummers to the Red Cross for disaster relief, at least that makes sense. |

I imagine Uly's would be the most practical vehicle, but Harleys make good police bikes, hopefully that is where they can be used. Maybe it does smack of PR - but I'm not going searching for bad in it. |
