Also known as the 1125r board.

What's going on with all the fiery posts there?

I can understand tempers flaring anytime politics, race, religion, weenie size or other touchy topics arise here on the Q board, but the R board is like a cage match.

Please tell me it's not some demon in the machine...that the 1125 is like a D-bag magnet...: D

I wish I knew. The posters in there are more edgy, and tend to misinterpret legit questioning as attacks, resulting in non-involved people coming out of the woodwork to do battle. I have no idea why it is like that only on the 1125 section, my guess is the water cooled sportbike attracted many immature hot-headed Jap4 riders.

It is almost never that you see anything like this anywhere else on Badweb outside a political/climate change thread.

It drives me up the wall, I have PMed some users telling them to chill, but its like zombies, you kill one and 5 more come out from nowhere.

I have always liked being here on badweb since i first signed up, but lately it does seem there are more and more arguing here. That being said I try to stick to the comedy type post and the how to do this or check out my cool new this or that type threads. I might look at some threads once or twice to see what it is about and if it is a bunch of arguing I usually stay away from it after that as they do not interest me. I have also noticed that the newer people on here are a bit younger than they used to be. I remember at one time being one of the youngest guys on this site (not saying young people on here is bad.) I have also noticed that a lot of times on the 1125 board there does seem to be a lot of guys that remind me of some people I used to hang out with that was in to the jap bikes that know nothing about setting up there bikes suspension and stuff like that and then want to say it is the bikes fault or that the bike is too twitchy or something like that when in fact it is just that the bike is very sensitive to how it is set up as opposed to the il4 bikes that are not as sensitive.

I really do wish that the bad web would go back to being more people helping each other and showing off new stuff and get away from being so political and buell bashing.

Here is my take:

All the excitement of owning a 1125 tends to leave the owners a bit forgetful thus forgetting to turn the bike ignitions off subsequently running down the batteries.

Overfilling the tanks in anticipation of long rides ahead only to spill excess fuel on the garage floors simply because it is too cold or snowy to ride.

All the frustration must be funneled somewhere so politics, religion, global cooling and an occasional wiener size debate are needed to blame the cause for the above. : )

Froggy and I had a discussion about this early in 2009 also. If I recall we came to blame it on the converts from other boards that are used to be attacked. I avoid it although I don't own an 1125 but I check out other bike threads I don't own. Oh well hopefully it changes eventually

I don't think the fire sale helped at all. There is/was a massive influx of buyers (you'll note I don't use the word "owners") who came simply because of the pricing. Many of those buyers are, as noted above, of the d-bag variety - it's just the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

I'd do more on Old School, but it's gotten pretty quiet lately (and I'm as much to blame as any - with salt on the roads, I'll stick to the Surlyn/powdercoated aluminum Uly as opposed to the painted steel tube frame, so my tubers aren't getting much use right now). I'm sticking a lot to QB and BB&D, which are fairly tame...but only post on the 1125 board if it's a concrete, "what is / how is" question or to post the dyno charts for my CR. The rest of it just isn't worth my time, and I keep hoping it will die down with time.

Kim's gonna start thumpin' around some, too...

For what its worth though, I've noted as many d-bag buyers on aircooled bikes as I have on Lokis.

Maybe someone should move a copy of this thread to the 1125 board? It might make even one person think twice before starting the flame wars....but probably not.

But it'd be fun to watch : )

Ratbuell, I don't think it would help. People there are generally hot-headed, and we even have non-1125 folks that like to drop in and take a jab fairly often.

Maybe we should just accept it, and perhaps do a new description for the section on the main BWB page.

Instead of "1125R Superbike Board: Buell 1125R Motorcycle Discussion Forum"

We could just go with "1125R Superbike Board: Where HP Ratings and Tempers Tend to Run a Bit Higher"

I think the problem stems from people coming here,"testing" something and telling everyone it's junk. I also think it has a lot to do with some that are self described "experts" and telling others how and what things to do. Disagreements are fine. But to argue over something that I would say most have no fcking idea what they're talking about, yet think they do, is funny and tragic all at the same time.
I've been a member of this board for a long time. I've seen some really smart people disappear and some real wankers take their place. The badweb becomes less and less a site worth visiting. Too bad.

I'm a born again BadWebber. I left the board right after the 9/11 tragedy turned everyone into fervent idiots. I came back because I figured all that had died down and my Wife won't talk with me about the 1125r : p Something about getting thrown in jail for speeding on it...I dunno...wimmen.

So if you think the R board is feisty you must have missed the previous epoch of name calling and fist shaking.

The key to fostering harmony when reading a mean-spirited indignant post is to appropriately picture the author sitting alone and throwing a tantrum in their soaking wet pink diaper.

Couldn't agree more. Got a call from an L.A. paper the other day wanting to know about Buell since the HD announcement. \

I told her that HD may have done themselves a favor selling all those bikes cheap but they, at the same time, created a new "trailer park community" in the Buell world.

These things pass.

Not as long as there are dyno charts to discuss. Everyone's an "expert" then I tell you!

I have done a scientific study and the results are in:
- Any dyno chart creates 83 responses with a standard deviation of 11
- 56 of the responses will exceed 12 paragraphs detailing that responders previous experiences and pointing out the errors of the initial post
- 14 responses leaves the reader just asking him/herself: WTF
- 8 responses will be personal attacks on the initial poster or another "expert"
- one responder will be so indignant that they state they'll never be back on BadWeB
- 3 posts (near the end) will state that it is impossible to get parity across dyno charts and "lets' just leave it at that"

That usually slows the thread and it eventually goes silently into the archive shortly thereafter.

Exception to the above occurs when Rocketman gets into the fray. The thread is sure to reach at least a count of 200, stray far away from dyno charts and end in tears and acrimony.

>>> Everyone's an "expert" then I tell you!

It's really kind of fun because . . with the passage of time . . it sorts out the talkers from the doers. . . . yes, the passage of time yields the "DOERMAN".

The first fun one was when Steve Beigler shot his mouth off on the old Buell forum . . he talked and talked, declared his expertise and decried and denounced those who so much as showed interest in the Buells.

It was when he blurted out "Buells are the sweepings off the Harley factory floor" that I took him to task. Confessed I wasn't all that bright but I knew what I knew (quoting Paul Simon). I did nothing more than ask him to do what he'd said he could do . . .

This time it worked out good for me . . . I simply challenged him to "put up or shut up? . . . hell, he never even showed it. I had fun, was on 15 radio talk shows, in 30 magazines and got to meet nice folks and see 37 states on one trip. Needless to say . . the talkers will quickly point out that their ex-brother in law traveled to 38. They can't share excitement, lacking personal achievement, they demote others accomplishments.

I saw a lot of this in college. I attended on a gymnastics scholarship and there was a guy who never worked out, never practiced, never invested the time and yet at the end of every competition was ready with an entire litany of "woulda, coulda, shoulda". It's the rallying cry of the light of mind.

Turns out that guys like that are talkers . . .that's the sum of the ammo in the bag. Taunted, challenged or teased they never do . . they just talk. I found people like this all the years I owned my business. All the people pissing and moaning about "working for the man" and how great they'd be if they were in charge . . guess what? . . they NEVER get in charge. . they talk.

The talkers also like to take the slightest misstep, miscue or mistake of the doers . . frame it, showcase it and parade it around.

The other day I quote something that was wrong, that I'd heard on a tv show, and one of the talkers. . . a person who'd not even been in the thread . . took great pleasure in pointing out the error.

My response was to type . . "I was wrong, I made a mistake". never resurfaced. Most those folks have never had any responsibility so taking responsibility and admitting a mistake just ain't an arrow in their quiver. They were cast to "work for the man" and they always will . . they'll spend a lifetime looking for things the doers to to take them to task. These small minds are fun, for a diversion, to play with from time to time. For the maximum entertainment suggest that there may be a question about their dyno charts. I asked a simple question the other day and the response was to point out that I'd never fired a shot in Baghdad in anger. I now see why they have the G.I. bill.

Favorite to date . . . and certainly a BadWeB triumph is still the TEAM ELVES effort. Those were the days when someday said they were great at something that, rather than knock them down, someone else said "hey, that's cool . . I'm great at something else . . . just think what we could do together?"

It became a living example of what happens when a Doctor from Denmark, a software engineer, a body shop worker in Indiana and a cop in Holland toss in together.

Yep . . they said a Buell could never break a land speed record and went on to twist the knife calling them "salt virgins" with elevated expectations that would certainly lead to disaster. By the time the sun set the first day 4 records had been broken (a record for number of records broken in a day that still stands . . since the bike was so well prepared it never needed to return to the pits) and the boys from BMW, seeing the first run, put it back on the trailer and headed home.

Yep . . dyno talk is cheap. It used to be when someone with lots of experience and the ability to make things happen could offer a suggestion or ask a question and get an answer . . . now it's akin to sticking one's hand in a oscillating fan.

Fortunately time and tide conspire to sort the groups. I'd wager, in a couple weeks while some of us are at Daytona, that in the comfort of the glow of their computer screen someone will be poised typing to tell us would they COULD have done.

These things pass.

By the way . . . needless to say and it's probably not a big secret that there have been a very busy group of folks "doing" since October 15, 2009. I hope time brings some of their names into focus . . maybe it will . . maybe it won't but I'll bet you like the results.

"got to meet nice folks and see 37 states on one trip"

Still the best Buell story for me. While it was significant at the time and recognized as such I believe it will be even more significant in the future.

http://www.teamelves.com/

Also great.

No one is require to contribute to the threads, provide useful information, provide encouragement or help those in need. Those that do make the BadWeb what it is. Those that don't will never know how that feels. Those people are a very small minority.

"The bikes get you but the people keep you"

Quote of the decade.
