What happens is their bonds go to shit, their services are cut, taxes go up, inflation hits, and the Fed gets involved...I think, I don't think it's ever happened. | ||

That would be the first domino to fall in a string of fifty. You know the fed would spread the load to all. Ultimately 'All' won't be able to support that load in the weakened conditions of the new economic realities. | ||

Arizona is almost bankrupt. They have sold their state buildings, closed state parks, rest areas, and many cities are laying off a good portion of fire and police departments. I have heard, don't know if it's true, that they will be handing out IOU's for tax refunds this year. It's very sad... | ||

I heard on the radio about an East Coast state capital city about to declare bankruptcy, not the whole state. I want to say Harrisburg but might be wrong. And since I don't want to get all polically frazzled this early in the week I will simply bow out of this thread. I will also avoid all Super Bowl commercial reviews because of the Green Police car ad that was a bit too analogously true in too many ways. And with government employees outnumbering manufacturing employees per one report about Wisconsin coupled with this state supposedly being in the top three nationwide for unemployeed people, double coupled with some local motorcycle manfacturer employees having grave concerns about their employer, I'm thinking it would be mentally healthier to just worry about the snow and getting ready to photograph a wedding this weekend (volunteered, unpaid, using a borrowed and barely suitable camera). | ||

Make sure you get some poses of Bride and everyone involved. Then take some candids and details (rings, flowers, knife set and cake, holy-book, etc.) Unfortunately, in these situations, the photographer is usually under-appreciated. They should pay for photos if they have any expectations of results. You've been warned. | ||

Hex, Thanks. This will be my 3rd or so. One where I wasn't even designated they wound up using more of my stuff than the paid guy's (and for that one I was using a pocket point-n-shoot). I'm going to start a new thread ("Not another camera thread") since I'm getting the desire to shoot more and am looking to get something by this summer if not by Friday. As the primary photographer, you've really got to take charge of the wedding. When we do it professionally, we are legally bound to produce acceptable results, otherwise the Bride can sue us. You're in that gray area of liability. But I guarantee you that SHE still has expectations...Looking forward to chatting with you. | ||

There are at least 4 top notch folks here on Badweb who earn some of their income (none would pass the Ken Rockwell test) shooting photos . . so you should be able to get some great advise. Danger Dave is the king of stills, RKC and Ebear are both top drawer action shot guys. They are all armed with top drawer equipment. Danger Dave and Ebear are Canon folks, RKC has more wrapped up in Nikon gear than I do in cars and bikes combined. ASK. | ||

Sooner or later Oregon will show you what happens when a state declares bankruptcy. The public employees retirement system will fail. That will happen when the PERS program is using all state taxes that are generated. | ||

Wow. I never thought about a state going bankrupt. Maybe they'll bust it up and sell it off to other states... redraw the maps and whatnot?  But y'know, if the auto industry and banks are "too big to fail", you know the O-man will just reach a little deeper into our pockets to fix the States. ~SM | ||

Yes, I was pondering on California. Ran across a Job listing out there I would like to apply for. But the past year has been about reducing overhead and stress. Much as I would like to move out there, I have to wonder how much stress I would be adding back into my life. | ||

I lived in Bridgeport, Connecticut when the city went bankrupt. The state bailed us out. Meaning all the other cities and towns really did the sacrificing. It didn't make any difference to the low quality service the city provided in the first place. Except the police of course. Those poor guys work their butts off in B-port. Do a pretty good job too. |
