"Loud pipes save lives" is a cop-out by people too lazy to pay attention Just like: "Every day, somewhere...there is another female that turns 18" (used to be my favorite saying when I was younger ) Now... it is something like: "Every day, there is a new senior citizen driving on the road and going blind". (Part of the reason I wear a green vest, living and commuting in Jersey during rush hour are the others) Be seen, be heard, whatever it takes. imo. I'd love to have a Drummer especially when I am in traffic. I could have used one to my benefit many times. |

Get both! My S1 is LOUD and my Scg is quiet. I live on a county road with a 2 year old surface, and I love hearing the IL4s go screaming by. It is the geezers on loud piped baggers, blasting country music that I shake my head at. |

Loud pipes huh..... ,well I'v got an FZ1 that has a aftermarket can, it makes more power, don't know if I'll ever 'need' it, but the 'can's' fairly quiet, I'd say at the rev limiter its 60-40, 60 being the exhaust, 40 being a mass of metal spinning. I prefer quiet exhaust, I can get away with way so much more without attracting attention. The 'Harley Fag' thing is often apt, but in a wider context than only Harleys, the 'look at me crowd' well their born dinks and theyll die dinks. |

Uhhh... I hate going all technical on people but how many "Loud Pipes Save Lives" folks have ever noticed that the tailpipe points to the REAR? You think loud pipes are gonna help you avoid crashing when you BACK into people? I think that Crusty's t-shirt that says "Loud Fans Save Lives" is just as applicable. Loud Pipes Lose Rights |

Grandma always used to say "Your rights end at the tip of the other persons nose." I understand her now and tend to agree. Nobody has a 'right' to loud pipes. We do enjoy the 'privilage' of driving though, and if those loud pipes are impacting others then I agree they must go. How many loud pipers would like it if the neighbors dog crapped in their yard. The principal is the same. |

I'd load my loud pipe with the dog poo and fire it back onto their lawn. Loud pipes are like stinky cigars. Only one person is enjoying it. I've found that if I am going to be happy...somebody else is going to be unhappy. Cruel? Maybe. Nobody ever said life was fair. (Message edited by Mountainstorm on February 09, 2010) |

I agree Richard(Mountainstorm)for the most part. I do respect all opinions and also agree that I do not want to infringe on anyones rights but, I expect the same from them. I like a little loud but nice sounding exhaust and use all due respect when riding to everyone. If any loud or somewhat loud noises offend you, you probably will only be at peace with everyone, living in a dark cave, especially if you live even close to trains, airports or even just in an urban environment. How about snowmobiles and atv's in completely rural areas. When I frequent these areas for peace and serenity and they go loudly by I just smile knowing they will be gone in a few seconds and enjoy their ride with them, so to speak. Live free, ride free and lets all enjoy our God given freedoms while we still have them and fight vigorously to keep them. |

The problem is that when enough people get unhappy then they will illeaglize(is that a word?) you into unhappyness. More so than the loud pipes, I believe it's their inconsiderate use that will cause an end to them. Most people with loud pipes are not bad people. However the rotton apple saying comes into play here. We will see a move towards banning them, too many non-riders to be overcome. Just look at what Fla has done with the wheelie laws. |

Much like Bikertrash05, my Cyclone... Loud(straight pipe), my 1125r... Quiet(stock pipe). My opinion, it sounds stupid, but I do plan on changing that by spring! I also Have a full size Dodge that has straight pipes. It just seems to be the norm around here. Never had a cop give a crap about any of it. Wait, I did get pulled over in my truck once, but that was because of my over sized tires that supposedly stuck out to far from the fender... |

When some jackass with straight pipes goes blasting down my street after closing the bar at 2:30 AM, and wakes me on a workday, it really pisses me off. I have no issue whatsoever with legislation requiring mandatory stock exhausts on a motorcycle (or a Mitsubishi, for that matter) I have let my elected representatives know my opinion. I have no consideration for assholes who show me none. |

My grandfather smoked cigars, now everytime I smell one it brings back good memories. He didn't ride a motorcycle though. |
