i obviously do not know what i am doing! I have not had an mp3 player before, but my new phone has one, and i am trying to transfer music from cd to my computer and then to my micro sd which will be plugged into the phone. i was able to transfer files with no problem, but they won't play because they are not mp3 files, how do i convert the songs to mp3 format? btw i have windows media player and vista operating system. THANKS!!!! BFFB |

Google your phone to find out what the name of the folder should be that you are placing the music in - it is likely expecting it to be in a specific folder. |

Try and use this program http://download.cnet.com/Free-CD-Ripper/3000-2168_ 4-10212165.html I don't think Windows Media Player will rip to MP3 right out of the box due to licensing restrictions. But I haven't used a music CD in over 15 years, so I am not 100% sure. |

Be aware that some MP3 players can not play variable bit rate MP3s. If that is the case with yours, turn that feature of in whatever software you're using to create the MP3 files from CD. My car stereo is one such player. I beat my head against the steering wheel for an hour before I figured that out. |

Some phones/players also have a maximum bitrate they will play also... |

Could it be DRM that is preventing the playback? |

Wow Hoot! I don't think I have seen an MP3 player that wouldn't play VBR files since about 1980 or something! |

It's my stock head unit, 6 disk in dash changer, plays MP3 on CDs, just not VBR MP3s. Believe me, I tried. |

And if you had an MP3 player in 1980, I formally accuse you of having access to a time machine and not sharing. |
