OK, so I'm looking at www.washingtonvotes.org to see what legislation is pending(I'm unemployed and have lots of free time). I find the following senate bill proposal from my State Senator Rosa Franklin D-Tacoma:

"Introduced by Sen. Rosa Franklin, (D-Tacoma) (D) on January 11, 2010, Requires that state agencies use positive characterizations for what are considered negative labels such as “at risk,” or “disadvantaged.” Replaces such designations with “kids at hope”."

You have got to be kidding me. This is what your working on. Unemployment is over 10%. The state has a $2.6 Billion dollar budget deficit. Business' are leaving the state due to the non-business friendly tax structure. This is the BEST you can do. Oh wait, she has a solution. Lets change the state Constitution to allow an income tax and implement it. So we have the following:

"Introduced by Sen. Rosa Franklin, (D-Tacoma) (D) on January 11, 2010, calls for a vote in November 2010 to amend the constitution to allow the stablishment of an income tax."

"Introduced by Sen. Rosa Franklin, (D-Tacoma) (D) on January 11, 2010, to impose a state income tax on all taxable income of residents, estates, trusts, and all other income derived from sources in this state. The income tax rates would be based on a graduated scale determined by income. This act reduces the state portion of the sales tax from 6.5% to 3.5% and eliminates for one year the collection of the state’s portion of the property tax, in 2012 only. The bill also provides additional exemptions and waivers from a state income tax."

Good to see she is looking out for her constituents. Keep in mind we already have a sales tax well over 9% here in the Puget Sound region plus the Regional Transit tax and anything else they can find.

Also, we have this:

"The first step is to amend Initiative 960, which requires a difficult two-thirds vote in the Legislature to raise taxes. Voters have approved the policy several times, but lawmakers can amend such laws after they've been on the books for two years."

So instead of looking for cuts lets ignore what the voters approved because its hard.

Well, thanks for reading and letting me vent : ) You gotta love the Left Coast.

I know how you feel, I live in the state just below you and we have went to the highest taxed state in the country!

They're going to tax 11% of the "gross" of most corporations. Its going to bury a couple contractors I work for.

I know our business will leave the state. How does that loss of revenue work for ya biatch?

hello Boise Idaho. Their cost of living is less, and there is dirt right out the window....

It is however a clever way of limiting population growth resulting from people moving here, maybe they can help the kids at hope to breed through an education to offset that drain. weeeetaaadid

Metalrabbit: I voted against measure 67 for my own reasons, but I have to say your description of it is way off base. The new tax rate is 0.1%, not 11%.

The minimum tax will be $150 for any C-corp with less than $500K in gross sales. The maximum will be $100K for any C-corp with greater than $100M in gross sales.
