yup! America is exporting our jobs and people just don't understand why unemployment is so high! America has become a service industry since we've lost our manufacturing base. train your kids early on how to work in this new economy, they should always ask, "do you want fries with that". |

A physics teacher in high school, once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following, obviously written by a good American .. Good idea .. . . one light bulb at a time . . . . Check this out! I can verify this because I was in Lowe's the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments. They were all made in China . The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start looking .. In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their job. So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track. Let's get behind her! My grandson likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more. My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico ... now &n! bsp;I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything .. This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled, "Everyday Value." I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price.. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland , Ohio . So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here.. So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets....yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price! My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save! may be your own or your neighbors! If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from overseas companies! (We should have awakened a decade ago) Let's get with the program.....help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the USA! |

We've always made a point to try to support local businesses, indie record shops versus the big chains, mom n pop grocery & produce shops versus the chains, local cafes using local produce, etc. When we have the rare night out, we frequent the unique smaller places and support the little guy instead of "chain" venues. We did this even before the economy went south (or east, or in the toilet, or wherever it went when it left us). I am disgusted with this messed up economy. It's supposed to be improving, but I am not seeing it. I see at least one area business shutter its doors each week. One article I read recently said jobs are not coming back to Florida 'til at least 2018. Does not paint a bright future for our family. Never really looked at the labels of where the every day goods were made, but I'm gonna start. If we all make an effort to "vote with our dollars", maybe we can start to take this frightening trend into our hands and reverse it or at least slow the bleeding. Thanks for letting me vent and for starting this thread. Feel better already. B. (Message edited by fltwistygirl on January 31, 2010) |

at my place of employment we/I try to buy as much as we can that comes from the USA. We take it even further by trying to buy as much as we can from Ohio. All our hardwood trim and S4S boards come from O H - I O! |

For the women out there, Victoria's Secret bras are treated with formaldehyde and can cause horrendous rashes. I think they're made in China. Walmart has bras from China and they too have formaldehyde in them. I had the great pleasure of experiencing this first hand. It sucked. Someone recommended getting online to do a search of products made in America. We actually make bras. WOW |

My point wasn't that those cars are made in Mexico. My point was that the tide of "avoid York Peppermint Patties" because they are made in Mexico is ridiculous. The same people will say "buy American" while driving an HHR made in Mexico. I still propose using the tax code to drive jobs back to America. Create a 0-50% tax credit based upon proportion of US work force. Have 100% of your work force located in the US? Get a 50% reduction in corporate taxes. Have 50% of your work force located in the US? Get a 25% reduction in corporate taxes. Have 0% of your work force located in the US? Get a 0% reduction in corporate taxes. If you want to keep jobs here, we MUST stop seeing corporations as tax sows. |

I went to the thrift store to find US made clothes. You will get depressed if you do it. Try these two sites. They are "Rick Free". http://allusaclothing.com/ http://www.findusmade.com/Mall/Apparel_Men.htm |

For some fun . . . see if you can find WHERE those "Made in USA" . . "Union Made" shirts are ACTUALLY made. I got in an argument several years ago with some fellows in the union and spent a week tracking them down. Eager to see if you found what I found. P.S. - At the moment . . .EVERY car and EVERY motorcycle I own was made in the U.S.A. (Message edited by court on January 31, 2010) |

I work for a community college in the bay area, and the taxpayers recently voted in a 500 million bond for overhaul/new construction. The new equiptment comes from many countries and the majority of the work force cannot speak english. |

I am also a buy American guy. When I brought my new Chevy Silverado home in 1994 I found a note under the hood saying made in Canada. I respect our northern brothers but damn, I wanted a USA made vehicle. |

What about a thread listing made in usa items who makes em and where to contact them.... } |
