Actually, what I was getting at is that mankind has created the vast majority of the religious laws that we adhere to (or not). From what I've read, the number of laws set down by God himself in the beginning are rather small, leaving plenty of freedom to go about your own business. Then the "righteous" step in and start mucking everything up, adding to the list of sins, convincing others that anyone believing differently is wrong. Using polygamy as an example, the Commandments say no adultery. Nowhere do they make a statement against having more than one spouse, or even against fornication (which is a separate thing from adultery, if you check the definition). So at it's essence is "If you're committed, don't screw around". All the other rules for relationships have been tacked on somewhere down the line. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on January 29, 2010) |

"If we cannot back up a factual assertion used to support a point in a debate, we shouldn't use it. Just stick to facts." Just like religion? |

The problem with people like Brittany and Michael and the lot is they don't think the rules apply to them, then the ugliness comes to there lives, even then some don't get it as in Michael's case and they are lost forever. |

Blake, Here we go again, you just keep proving my points over and over again, with repetitive mention of what I already mentioned, only to justify another one of your ridiculous attempts at bullying someone willing to share an opinion, again an opinion, only an opinion, not to be confused as fact or an attempt at selling an opinion as fact! Facts, do you remember what they are? You want facts, they are not your opinions, I can guarantee you that! A tiny minority, of course it is, when you believe in what I believe, because its only you who can control your own fate and destiny? There are no books, laws, or scriptures to follow. Maybe you missed that? If you missed this too, I never once suggested people share my beliefs in any way shape or form, you suggested that was my intent, which was clearly stated, it was not! Your last post was very accurate that you directed toward me, except that you are really explaining your worship of Buell, not my thoughts! Example: Doing some research on a Ducati I came across an article that stated that Ducati produced 170,000 Monster models (only one model from Ducati's Motorcycle Lineup) from 1993 - 2007 and still producing them (Motorcycle USA Article), compared to around 137,011 of Buell's entire Motorcycle Lineup produced from 1981 - 2010 (posted on BadWeb). Not sure how accurate these numbers are, but I have nothing to prove they are not correct either. This was only used to show a comparison to how many believers out there Blake ridicules and disrespects with attempts at convincing the population on BadWeb that Buell is the "be all and end all" of Motorcycles, not an attempt at bashing Buell. So Blake can you still not admit you were wrong for unjustly attacking me? Of course not that wouldn't be very "Web Tough Guy" like, now would it? Is anyone else as excited as I am with anticipation of the "Grade School Like Name Calling Session" this will bring, from Blake and hopefully from some of his "Fellow Followers"? If it gets me banned form here, oh well, I asked Blake politely before! <"I am not sure why you are trying to bait me into an argument or a debate? I am not one who has a history of conflict on this Forum. If you are trying to give me one, please look elsewhere, I have no interest, but I am fully capable of wearing that title with factual information!"> Thank You, Troy Froggy, PM sent! |

Grump, I don't agree that we all write our own rules, at least not to the same extent. Some folks do pretty well at following God's rules. Bob, No, debate is not the same as a religion. Troy, "bullying someone willing to share an opinion, again an opinion, only an opinion, not to be confused as fact or an attempt at selling an opinion as fact! " It's a discussion. You offered analogy. I challenge it. It is a discussion. You've made it personal, not I. I have no interest in sinking to that level. I just find, through analysis and logic that your "opinion" is deeply flawed and I find it a lame cop-out to throw up a rebuttal of "it's just my opinion." What else is it supposed to be? It's a discussion. That's all. Challenging what you hold out as evidence supporting your opinion is a normal part of debate; becoming defensive and lashing out personally in response is bizarre. Have the guts to defend your opinion. I'm interested in thoughtful debate, a give and take, back and forth, not merely a review of opinion absent review or rebuttal. You are in no danger of being banned or suspended or even warned for misbehavior. Not sure where some get the idea that BadWeB is so petty as to wage such heavy-handed oversight. It has never happened. You have to really try hard to be kicked from this place, and even then, chances are you'll be welcomed back in short order. You've made another accusation, one I've heard and challenged before, that my opinion is that Buells are the "be all and end all of motorcycles." You are sorely confused. I've never stated or believed anything of the kind. |

"If you missed this too, I never once suggested people share my beliefs in any way shape or form, you suggested that was my intent, which was clearly stated, it was not! " From my perspective, you absolutely did. How did I get that impression? You spoke of believers as being analogous to people who think that Harleys or Buells are the only worthwhile motorcycles. That clearly paints believers as a tiny minority. I now understand that is not what you meant. It's why we continue to discuss and learn about each others' opinions, yes? To clarify and inform, yes? Debate and discussion are good, yes? |

Blake, "It's why we continue to discuss and learn about each others' opinions, yes? To clarify and inform, yes? Debate and discussion are good, yes?" Yes agreed!!! Many times strong opinions will clash! Sometimes it is hard for me to identify between a disagreement and a personal attack from you, along with a few others on here. Troy |

I'm so grateful for this interface. If it wasn't for this separation of mind and body, a lot of fist fights would have happened with these discussions. And a lot of minority opinions would be even less vocal. |

What is this "god" with a small g? A lesser god? God delivered to Moses ten commandments upon which the laws and social ethics of Judeo-Christianity still stand today. To live without the social mores of Judeo-Christianity is to live as pagans, anarchists and garden variety criminals. |

All religious writings are either revealed ( God{s} told me ) or reasoned. ( I figured this out/my guess is ) Since the folk who use religion as a scam are not honest about which kind of "holy" word they lay on you, I have a little difficulty telling them apart, especially after a few thousand years. I won't speculate how much religion would not exist if anti Psychotic drugs had been around for 14000 years, but if you are one of the smug athiest types, enjoy. Since the cave man days, some people figured out how to make others do the hard work, haul the sh!t, hunt the mammoth, gather the roots, while he/she hung out at the cave, and made majik to bring the food/weather/victory over the next tribe over. Sometimes the shaman/priest/etc. was an herbalist who actually could help keep the tribe healthy, and was taught how to tell the seasons, plan the planting, avoid the killer mushrooms. In tens of thousands of years, we have divided those 2 branches of shamanism into the doctors & pastors. There still is some cross over, but many agree that psychic surgeons/natural viagra/penis enlargers/global warming/etc. are cons. So, for that matter is "liberation theology" where the Soviet Union spent a great deal of time subverting Catholic priests to preach a particular brand of communism. Mostly in South & Central America, where the Church has a major role in life, and in the N. American colored churches ( old term, but this is in historical context ) to breed revolution in Urban America. See Rev, Wright, and other "spiritual advizors" of the current Prez. Perhaps this heresy might best be thought of as religious warfare as the Christian God is replaced by the all holy State. Doctors & nurses with a religious calling are another category altogether, and should not be considered part of the "church as scam" crowd. Faith that brings you comfort & improves your dealing with others is IMHO a good thing. ( I'm going to mock you if you think that countersteering is done with the toe, or you think that Frogs are God... but don't let that stop you.) |

Faith that brings you comfort & improves your dealing with others is IMHO a good thing. I couldn't agree more. It's a shame so many people take the attitude that if you don't share their beliefs you are somehow less than them. Live & let live, there's room for us all. |

Hex, if you don't believe ( this is about belief, eh? ) that... A. there are/is beings with such powers & intellect that they are superhuman..."god(s)" B. that there is ONE and only one and he/she is the one described in the Bible. C. the Bible is the reveled word, and the words of Prophets, and has been correctly translated. ( Since I'm NOT a scholar in attic Greek or Aramaic, the only mistranslation I'm aware of is the one about poisoners, which has led to much murder over the years ) Then you are just picking on people and not actually discussing religion. I mean, if you don't believe in the Biblical God, asking for a law written by him is b.s. I think you'd have to go back to the original 15 ( crash, er...) 10 commandments and look at the tablets. Since we know from "Raiders of the lost Ark" that they are now dust, good luck with that. To all.. If someone forgets to Capitalize the name/Title of Your Choice of God(s), please assume Rapid typing & spelling error, not herEsy. OK? |

Then you are just picking on people and not actually discussing religion. I wonder what enlightenment is then? Would you consider all the Buddhists picking on religion? I'll go ask the Buddhists. If they in fact believe that there is anything greater than consciousness I'll be the first to let you all know. In the mean time, thank you for answering my question. And I'll restate the obvious: There are no written laws by god. All laws are MAN made. I capitalize MAN because we've keep the women out of this for a really long time, just like the Muslims with their burkas. Shalom. |

If God communicated his laws to man in other than written form, then man wrote them down, then you are correct that God did not "write" the law. You would be incorrect to assert that the laws did not come from God. (Message edited by blake on January 31, 2010) |
