So I am back in school and of course that means essays When my professes gave me the ability to choose anything to write about. I chose Buells. Why, well no one in my class will be choosing the same topic, it's something interesting to write about and hopefully I will walk away knowing about the object that takes all of our extra money. lol..So my questions to you, being the people who know buell best, with out any personal opinion included. What are some facts that you would include in a essay about Buells. |

Wow, that's not a very focused question. If you tell us a bit more about the direction you want this essay to cover might help a bit. Or you may want to use the 25 Years Of Buell book as a good starting reference. |

You're not likely to get much in the way of facts unclouded by personal opinion when the topic is motorcycles, and not just Buell. If you just want facts, I suggest product spec sheets, and for the history of the company, 25 years of Buell, as 99BuellX1 suggests. |

"hd made a bone head decision and gave them the boot" I think history will prove that to be "an accurate statement" worthy of consideration as fact. |

even with the topic of buell you could have a huge variety of topics for your paper! you could write about buells history such as the book everybody else is sugesting did, you could talk about buells inovative bikes, buells in the racing world, the man behind the bikes, how buell was the only true american sports bike up agains a world of jap bikes and other huge bike companies, you could talk about homecoming, and other events that are organized for buell, you could go through and talk about all the bikes individually that buell has produced, you could talk about buells history with HD and its future as EBR its almost endless what you could talk about. if you want to just write about motorcycling in general then i could come up with a ton more topics!!!! |

I like th way Ian is thinking. There were a lot of good bullet points listed in the letter writing thread from a month or so back, I can try and find it when I have more time. |

I find it hard to write about something I'm really passionate about. Things that are obvious to me are just so much gibberish to normal folks. Just saying, be mindful of your audience. By the way, who is your audience? What class is this for? |

You could do little profiles on several Buell riders to show how motorcycles appeal to many different kinds of people for different reasons.I would like to read it when you are done no matter how you do it. |

Well I am just wanting to do a informative essay. Keep im mind my audience really knows nothing about motorcycles. And to they have never even heard the word Buell So I really wanted to focus on what makes a Buell different then any other sports bike, Erik Buell him self, and just the history of the bike. I have been doing a lot of research. I have the book " 25 Years of Buell" I have online research and of course I have ya'll. So more specifically. If I asked what are 3 reasons Buell is different then your average sports bike. |

I just did a biz analysis for HD culture and steering correction that should be taken moving forward. funny the recommendations looked alot like who and what Buell was. I really think HD was threatened by the success of the 'upstart' and how well it was doing outside of their brand of motorcycling culture. |

>>>I really think HD was threatened by the success of the 'upstart' and how well it was doing outside of their brand of motorcycling culture. That's an accurate statement. There was a national firm in the process of doing a detailed study of Buell, the culture, the market and the product. It's precisely the reason, when a group of nice people with a checkbook arrived in Milwaukee, that HD said "no only no, but hell no". If someone bought Buell and Buell sold 30,000 units next year . . . to quote a moron . . "we'd look like fools. . . over my dead body". |

1. homecoming is a social gathering of buell enthusiasts in wisconsin 2. june 16-20th i believe 3. why do you ride a buell? ha ha, no, its going to be fun, and you actually get to meet all theese crazy people your talking to on here in person 4. IDK...i know it says it in my 25 years of buell book, but i'm letting a friend borrow it, and i'm sitting in class right now 5. idk this one eiher... 6. they are low powered, low to the ground, upright controls, very light weight, easy maitenince, easy to control at slow speeds, and it shouldnt do anything to suprise you unless you really dont get what your doing |

1,Daytona Sportbike in 2009 and Danny Eslick was the rider.Kind if weird that Buell had finally got a liquid cooled V twin motor in '08,won a championship in '09 and then was axed shortly thereafter. |

Buells have won a numbers of championships YEARS ago. Eslick won the first AMA Championship. I have an invite to a Homecoming 20 years ago laying on the desk. |

Had an arguement with the business professor today about brand awareness/loyalty and return on profitability. He made the mistake of using H-D as brand awareness Icon; he should have stuck with Coke. I hit him two fold. Just because the brand is every fricken where (on Barbies, back packs, bbq's, pool tables, jukeboxes, dog snuggies, ufc sponsorships etc) may increase the instance of logo appearance, but it doesnt translate directly back to promoting and moving your core product unit. With all the divergent things that they put their logo on, and away from their original business model; it creates an air of selling out, it looses credibility, the brand, and its main product value is devaluated. In every year that Merchandise has expanded market share... motorvehicles have taken a loss compared to previous years. So are you a merchandise company that incidently has bikes or are you a bike company and you might get a shirt, but never a jacuzzi, air popping machine, gas grill, bed sheets, cat toys....? The prof doesnt ride... I doubt he will be using HD for an example next quarter |

FWIW, a Buell was raced in the 2009 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb race by the first black man to ever compete. Hard to believe that it took 2009 before that happened. We only signed the rider after our two experienced riders in the race were injured in practices weeks earlier. We have placed second in the race on Buells in our two years of competition; 2008 & 2009. I'll go out on a limb and say that we expect a better finish in 2010. ~jammer |

Cityxslicker, outstanding and plus 1. I had a similar conversation (similar only in the HD topic) at the Apple store yesterday with the young man that brought my computer out, reconfigured it the way I wanted, then carried it out to my car. He asked about my hat (Buell hat with HD dealership on the back) and was doing a paper in school about HD but wanted it to be different. We talked for about 20 minutes... I hope he goes in the direction I mentioned but I told him to basically do a comparison between Apple and HD and concentrate on customer service. Lovemybuellman, I hope you share your final paper with us. I bet it will be a great read. |
