The one thing you will never get from a using addict is a straight story, so don't get hung up on honesty (or the lack thereof).

Just have lots of love and good boundaries.

The Custodians have been deliberating on th is thread since it opened and the Anony post appeared.

This wasn't an easy decision.

Whether or not the above is true or fabricated is a non issue. The resulting dialogue is the most compelling and compassionate I've read on this "quick board". Along these lines I would like to add that prescription drugs can be equally harmful. I lost my very dear sister almost two years ago to a combination of Xanax and wine. I woke up last night and had a good cry over her. It should never have happened.

I have been a recovering addict for 20 years. I have never felt comfortable posting anything about it on Badweb since I started here 8 years ago. I have known for some time this is a ruse and I think it was handled appropriately. I decided to leave everything I posted up, because it is who I am.

I am a recovering addict. I am not proud of some of the things I have done in my life, but I am proud today to say I am clean JUST FOR TODAY. Funny how things work out.

I will post some more thoughts on this later, as I am due at work shortly. I think the easiest way to think about it is this...

ADDICTION IS AN ILLNESS NOT A MORAL DEFICIENCY... people's illnesses will lead them to do many strange things... no anger here, just acceptance.

Ok, so it's a ruse. It begs the question, why ???

Some of the most incredible I know are recovering addicts. And based on friends that I have had that were using... focus on the person and the root cry for help. Don't sweat the lies / scams / angry words etc. Protect your self from them, but don't sweat them.

Anony. This is why so much debate on the issue.

Unfortunately, we have TWO obligations.

We want to support and protect those involved.

We want to support and protect the members of BadWeb.

If true, you will find no greater ally than those who frequent these pages in supporting you through your darkest days.

If false, you will find no greater condemnation than playing on the sympathies of those who would come to your support and aid.

Anonymity will be maintained regardless. We simply had to make sure what we thought was true, is.

Buy the way. I lost my best friend and mentor in 2004 to heroin.

There is not a day that goes by I don't miss him.

My world simply hasn't been the same since.

When three contributors to the thread all share the same IP, and all share the same first name listed in their profile, and all list places of residence that are nowhere near the origin of their IP, then something is sorely amiss.

If you want to straighten out a misunderstanding, then please contact me directly.

Last inappropriate anony post removed.

Thinking back I haven't lost any others to drugs that I know of. I'm sure some of my old friends have died since the '80s of OD, there's a lot of dope out there, and a big market for it.

Come to think of it, I've lost way more friends and family to motorcycling, automobiles, and poor health insurance(some people didn't go to the doctor when they should've), etc.
