While driving home from the playoff game on Sunday, my wife suggests that we are both suffering from cabin fever, and we need a roadtrip. She proposes somewhere warm, a couple days on a rented motorcycle, and balmy nights doing things i won't discuss here.

She then suggests Savannah, Georgia, for no discernible reason.

So, for anybody familiar with the area, i have a few questions.

1) is there somewhere i can rent a bike for a few days?

2) can you recommend a few places for good eats?

3) where is the nearest road course, and when does the racing start?

4) helmet law?

5) assuming i can get a bike, which are the "you GOTTA ride this" roads?

Savannah is not the only potential destination, but WARM and COUPLE DAYS ON A RENTED BIKE are set in stone. Florida was also brought up, but then we'd spend most of our time visiting retired aunts and uncles, and my riding time would be greatly diminished, so that's out.

please help keep a fellow bueller from going frickin nutz!!

1) Not sure, other's may know.

2) Pretty much anywhere in Savannah. If you love sea food, even better. There is a place that I love on the road to Tybee Island (Hw 80). I don't recall the name since it has been so long, but it is obvious since it is the only restaurant in that area.

3) Not sure.

4) Yes, Georgia has a mandatory Helmet law.

5) Don't know that either, but a cruise around that area will be a wonderful display of historical architecture if that blows your skirt up. It is pretty much flat there, so there aren't any mountain twisties.

I love Savannah, mainly for the historical aspects, and some really really good food and beverages. And the folks are just plain sweet.

Have fun!!

This is an easy one!
Savannah HD most likely has a rental program. Roebling Road track is in nearby Pooler. There are no gotta ride roads according to my son who lives in Pooler.
Food and tourists are what Savannah is about. Water street, Tybee Island, City Market. I stay away from all the Paula Deans places except Uncle Bubba's on the way to Tybee. Or hit the Crab Shack.
Georga is a helmet state.
If your interested I can probabaly get Brad to give you the real hot spots he never takes me to!

Don't remember the name of the pizza joint we ate at but I know it's located in the traffic circle in the old part of town. To this day some the best pizza I've had and a great atmosphere.

It's Vinny's Pizza, right next to Wild Wings, just down from Corleones Italiano. All are in City Market area.
You can find any food you want in Savannah, and I've never had a bad meal!

thanx for all the replies.

Roebling's website sez that it's "non-spectator." that stinks. we go to the races quite a bit, and i'm thinking that we're spoiled here. Milwaukee mile, R.A. Slinger, Beaver Dam, Madison Int'l, Colombus, Jefferson, the list goes on and on. there must be a short track or another road course (hell, i'd even settle for drag racing) in the area.

sounds like food won't be a problem. How about a casual (think jeans and helmet hair) place to get prime rib?

As far as I've seen in seven years of visiting Savannah, Jeans is dressed up!
You will find way more seafood than steak. I'll check with Brad for a steakhouse. The only ones I've seen are franchises. I'm strange, but I don't eat in those.

I think you will find that Savannah, as a whole, is all casual.
I can't name a place that serves prime-rib, mainly cause I am not familiar with any of the current eateries (haven't been there in a long while), but I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for. Jeans and helmet hair would most likely be accepted anywhere you go.
