My post was directed towards the Taliban and Alqueda terrorists only. No one else. I am sure everyone else's post is/was directed similarly. I mean no one wants war, death and destruction do they? Well only for our enemies. With that said... OK...so now we are gonna see pregnant women with real bombs in their womb, or people with their kidneys replaced with C4 and a cellphone. Fun-times-are-a-comin! And being politically correct would stop this how???? |

My favorite quote of the last week . . . .
quote: " . . . . Our tax dollars should be used to kill our enemies, not provide them with lawyers" -- Scott Brown\i {spoken from the window of a "low class" (it's true since the president said it) pickup truck

Virgins for killing people and a little pig's blood and you can't go to Heaven. Such silliness |

OK - you know I truly hate to break into another motorcyclist's mis-informed ranting about how you can prevent a Muslim from going to heaven but you are ALL spending too much time jerking each other and calling it love. Pigs blood, shellfish, pork, dogs - and other stuff considered to be "unclean" won't keep them out of heaven (do the research - takes all of 90 seconds)
quote:I been unable to find any evidence corroborating the claim that Muslims believe that “eating or touching a pig, its meat, its blood, etc., is to be instantly barred from paradise and doomed to hell.” It is true that Islamic dietary restrictions, like those of Judaism, forbid the eating or handling of pork because pigs are considered unclean. But according to Raeed Tayeh of the American Muslim Association in North America, the notion that a Muslim would be denied entrance to heaven for touching a pig is “ridiculous.” (Source: About.com)
You guys all need to realize that the war on terror IS SERIOUS and if you think that knowingly pissing off our allies is a good way to keep them fighting with us and against OTHER MUSLIMS, then write Congress since you seem to know what it will take. But I'd say the ongoing circle-jerk about this is more productive... carry on. Just wash your hands before dinner. |

Just the penalty for proselytizing ranges from public lashings to summary execution depending on country. That's a lot to ask of our allies NOW THAT THEY KNOW. I'm not saying it was a good thing that somebody let the cat out of the bag that there were biblical references on hardware being sold to the Military for use and for export, but we're NOT over there to convert them to christianity or send them to hell. If that confuses some people, there's nothing I can do to clarify anything. GIVEN that we're trying to work WITH the locals, WHY RISK PISSING THEM OFF? Especially if we're wanting to get outta that shithole some day in the future. THEY will wait decades to CENTURIES to get what they are after - we want answers by the next commercial break. I think putting biblical references on something being sold to the military is just stupid - I can't imagine doing that - especially considering engaging in the profitable side of death and destruction is what I do for a living. |

Oh and back in the day I've shot my own Armson OEG sight on my AR-15 (XM-15), AR-180 and H&K 91 - the Trijicon military sight is far superior to the original Armos but the occluded eye gunsight is awesome - instinctively pointing without worrying about eye relief or parallax. Classic "snap shots" - instinctive shooting. |

Not passing judgment on this one way or the other. It just seems that way too much is being made of this. You now seem to be making the case that this was to proselytize to enemies/allies. I don't see that this was the intent. These codes have been used by Trijicon for a long time and has nothing to do specifically with the current conflict. It's a small thing to get bunched panties over. |

Atheism is a religion. Now, I know that's going to hack some off. Too bad. It's a spiritual choice. Most atheists are fine, they believe what they want, and don't screw with others to force them to their faith. Same with Muslims, Baptists, Rosecrucians, Wiccans, etc. Most are fine folk, and try to live by the behavioral laws of their faith, or don't really care all that much & live by the laws of the local govt. I Know of no radical Wiccan, but I don't read Homeland security reports, so there may be a cell of those who somehow missed the admonition of "An it harm none do what ye will" or don't get the Three-fold Law. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Now there is a radical brand of atheist. IMO they are folk who hit the natural adolescent stage of rejection of authority, and their spiritual/emotional path stuck there. You can tell them from rational secular humanists because they are so whiney. These are the ones "offended" by others believing in invisible giants and magik powers. Like Redemption, Supreme Being(s), Faith, or the concepts of Good & Evil. Now a "rational" atheist, like Christopher Hitchens, may go on about how silly we are to believe anything we can't reason, taste or see, even write books refuting the existence of God(s), and even mock with special loathing religions that have evil leaders that con their followers into strapping bombs on babies. ( Come to think of it, I do that last, myself ) But Hitchens would never do violence to someone because of their faith...though he is in danger from the ones who would ( and have ) kill film makers, poets, writers, and cartoonists in their zeal. If you want to do a rant on the historical nastiness of some religion, say, the Medieval Catholic Church, go ahead, I'll mock your errors. There is no doubt that recent evil has been done by religious people, and covered up or denied by religious "Authorities". No doubt. So what? last I looked the Orthodox Church didn't have a notable number of Priests telling their flocks to kill me. In fact, with the notable exception of the bozo's that protest at servicemen's funerals about how America is damned by having gay people.... I don't see any faith that worries me other than Wahabi Islam & like minded jihadi. Oh, yeah, the Greens. That's a scary bunch too. State worshipers! them too. So we're all cool with religion if it's not being forced upon us or the radicals are killing in the name of their god, right? If not, speak up heretic! |

Oh, yeah, Trijicon makes a great product. I was skeptical about the reticule, until I tried a buddies on his AR. Sweet. It has remarkably improved the chances of our servicemen & women to survive, reduced civilian casualties, and changed the battlefield almost as much as the introduction of smokeless powder a century ago. ( no disrespect for Aimpoint & the other makers of fine optics ) If the founder wishes to subtly give spiritual comfort to his customers, I applaud & thank him. To the jerks who make a big deal of that, or choose to impose their own neuroses on it.. |

I'd strongly recommend reading "Thousand Years for Revenge" to keep your pigs blood and bible verses in perspective when viewed against the REALITY of what we're actually up against. These people against whom we hope to prevail are far more patient that we ever will be. A bit of history is T. E. Lawrence's "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" - while some of Lawrence's writings might be challenged on a PERSONAL basis, his descriptions of the tribal systems and issues are VERY FAMILIAR almost a century later - except the Europeans don't count on their camel meat as a food source upon leaving their area of operations. Can't eat a HMMV. At the risk of lecturing (not like that's gonna stop me) - you really ought to stop posturing for each other and consider just what it is that we MUST DO to prevail OVER THERE - not what us fans in the cheap seats OVER HERE think will send them to hell or get them to "see god our way." We can't just expect them to deal with our religion because we demand it of them. We need to have them willing to pull the trigger with somebody who they might consider to be a fellow Muslim with his chest right there in the Trijicon sight. This can't be turned into a religious war if we ever expect to do any good and a Government Vendor or Contractor thinking they're doing something clever in this - isn't helping us OVER THERE. We're talking about scriptural references put onto weapon sights being handed to people we HOPE will remain our allies long enough for us to get the hell out of their lands. If you're wanting to say let's just get the hell outta there RIGHT NOW - we are in agreement... let's get the hell out. But if you are saying we need to FIGHT - then we need EVERY ADVANTAGE and we should take EVERY LITTLE ADVANTAGE where we can find it... and biblical verses cast into weapon systems given to allies (who are already iffy at best) - is just counterproductive. This is about putting potentially offensive words on weapons which we expect to give to people whose help we NEED - to stabilize THEIR Countries. If YOU want to carry around scriptural references, that is your right IN THIS COUNTRY. ARRRgggghhh. my head hurts. Weather is too crappy to ride and it's too cold to finish the engine work... |

I got an EOTEK and it is a pretty nice sight too.On a flat top upper the dot lines up right on top of the front sight if you are looking through the rear sight(which is usually folded down)I haven't looked for any Bible verses on it though. |

The cool thing about the occluded eye sights is being able to keep both eyes open. Makes shooting in stress situations much simpler and training much easier... and yeah, you still have to sight it in like any other scope but once you try it, it'll make you a "TRUE BELIEVER." |

Can the locals read/speak english?? Do they even know or care what the Bible is?? Will they ever inspect gunsites for biblical phrase's or codes? We can't throw pigs blood on them (via on the bullets shot towards the ENEMY) but they can tape c4 or whatnot to babies and children to blow people up?? I don't care where they go or what they believe happens when they die. I just know it makes them very uncomfortable and uneasy. If that prevents any of our troops or any innocent people from being killed, murdered or maimed, I would support it. I am only speaking of the Alqueda/Taliban terrorists. (it seems like it would have worked very well in Iraq, maybe not in Afgan) Just because the USA has only been here since 1776 does not mean we wont fight for it just as long or longer than other countries. Not that I would want that. |

Eighth century. Ask the folks in Constantinople. Dar el harb is a long term thing. Slaughter, as far as I know, we aren't giving allies these sights, they are for our troops. Most of the people we are training use the Ak, since they already have them, they are much easier to use ( I don't like the ergo's on an AK, but they are meant for peasants. Children use them. ) and they tolerate typical milita treatment in most of the middle east. ( Thanks Soviet scum, for giving them away to screw with us for 50 years....A--holes. ) I agree that it would be insensitive to give stuff with, say, crosses on them to intolerant folk if you want them to be your buddy. The news article above falls under the usual theme of anti- ( military/American/Capitalism/civilization) thinking by the media elite. The ONLY reason to publish this story is to hurt U.S. interests, troops, and world peace. Or, maybe I'm just bitter about the spring tv line up... +1 on the sights. I thought it hog wash until I tried it. When you can hit the steel plates at 100 yards with the cap on the objective lens... you believe. I also get along fine with agnostics, they aren't smugly sure you're wrong. (Message edited by aesquire on January 23, 2010) (Message edited by aesquire on January 23, 2010) |

There was a very good piece on NPR today (yes, NPR, don't flinch...) done by a 15 year Marine veteran named Benjamin Bush, regarding these Biblical verse inscriptions on these gunsights. I recommend youn's that are interested search out the audio file/podcast and listen. I greatly appreciated what he had to say. BTW: Speaking for myself, I was raised Southern Baptist on mom's side, but my dad was Catholic. My sister just earned her Doctorate of Ministry from Asbury Seminary this past May. Her dissertation is titled "Spiritual Formation and Southern Baptist Clergy". She is a hospital chaplain, I can never hope to do the good work she has done in her lifetime or even three lifetimes. I have come to realize that after all I can do to figure it out, I'm an agnostic- not to be flip about it, but "Jesus is just allright with me..." somehow the Doobie Brothers got it right. I do not claim to know the Truth, but I actively seek to know it through my life and my deeds. I am and will remain a sinner- no man may judge me, but I hope to have my spiritual resume read by someone a little higher up than my dogs. Glad to have this thread going on. It is important to keep looking for the truth- I pity those who think they have already found it. Keep on keeping on.... |

These sights ARE going to allies (Fox even had a pic of one of them with it in his squad) All my beyotching aside, we just gotta decide if it's worth it. The Brits have decided to just DEAL with it as is. I know we mill off serial numbers from weapons all the time when used by operators and special units - but it can be a pain in the butt. We just gotta decide if the practical operational considerations outweigh an abstract principle. |

So much crying by those who will never know or even be affected by it. It is just more of your typical liberal PC crap. The sad part is that they have no gain but to put down a religion. I'm sure it makes them all sleep better. "Bunch of slack jawed %@^#$^s" |
