Hi I've searched for about 45 minutes and still can't find an answer. How tight should your drive belt be. I've read that folks often notice they become looser just before they break. Mine seems pretty loose - will easily deflect about an inch with fingertip pressure. Never really measured it before so I can't say if this is new or if its always this way. 06 Uly, 17K thanks |

Apparently one way to tell is to spin your tensioner pulley by hand. If you can, it's getting loose. I've never tried though, so YMMV I just keep riding mine till I break something LOL |

I had over 40K on my second belt so I changed it out yesterday for a new AK"E" belt. It was very loose, easily 1" or more deflection, and the pulley spun easily with one finger. Visibly it was actually in pretty good shape, no chunking teeth or fraying or significant cracks. I compared it with my original belt changed at 20K, markedly more wear and I think I would have been pushing it stretching it toward 50K. That new belt is TIGHT. Power delivery to the rear wheel seems smoother too, though maybe it's in my head. |

Yuk. Tensioner pulley belt spins easily by hand. Guess I'm on borrowed time. Luckily, if you can call it luck, I finally went to the dump and unloaded all the junk that's been on my trailer since fall. I was planning on riding to work more but the thought of a broken belt on the DC beltway is a scary one. Anybody want to sell a spare belt? |
