I'm thinking distraction more than helpful. But of course that is without trying it. Too much information can be as bad as not enough. I have driven trucks and large motor coaches with back up cameras. I find that I like to turn it on if there is a problem or need, otherwise to leave it on just driving down the road it is very distracting.
Could it cause you to miss something in your forward peripheral vision by showing you something that is not an immediate issue behind you?
I think for the most part it would be like receiving pop-ups on your computer, more decisions on what to ignore.
I think its a pretty cool idea and I would like to give it a try. But I don't see what difference it would be to look down at the mirrors on my bike or look up at the mirror in my helmet.
I'm still going to give a quick head turn to check my blind spot.... its habit.
But racing... that would be great to take someones line away that was trying to pass you on the last lap
I've used them with good success. My last pair wore out after 4 years of daily use and I just haven't gotten around to getting another. Definitely high in the dork factor (I called them my mandibles) but they work, and you can actually get them.
I could never get used to my bicycle helmet mirror. I only spent a day or so with it and having to turn my head the opposite direction to see behind me just threw me off.
look to the left to see whats behind you on the right. and vice averse, VERY sketchy in corners.
I think it looks like a great idea, but I'd have to try it before it got my approval. The rear view component could be very distracting, especially if you were trying to concentrate on the road ahead and something were colourful or flashing behind you. Night riding could prove challenging if drivers behind you had headlights on...or on high beam. Is there a night tinting feature? Can you shut the mirror window? And if you were riding a more sporty model of bike that leaned you forward more and you tipped your helmet back for better vision, does it then give you an image of the sky? Hhhhmmm...good idea though.
