Global warming is figured by an annual rise in temperature, NOT by freak spikes in weather patterns. An overall rise in annual temps. Get it? |

Global warming is figured by an annual rise in temperature, NOT by freak spikes in weather patterns. An overall rise in annual temps. Get it? Yeah, I get it. Al Gore and his cronies throw out those cold temperatures when they are manipulating raw temperature data declare the earth is warming. They, also, figure since people are present, we must be causing it. Give me a break! (Message edited by aeholton on January 09, 2010) |

I guess George Bush is driving down the temperatures just like he created those hurricanes to wipe out black people. Damn, that guy is powerful. |

Global warming is figured by an annual rise in temperature, NOT by freak spikes in weather patterns. An overall rise in annual temps. Get it? Soooooo Wouldn't it figure that the 'freak' cold weather would not happen due to the global rise in temp??? We are a large rock floating in nothing that is negative 400* We are floating around a large nuclear furnace that is millions of times bigger than us which is in turn floating around a larger nuclear furnace. Hmmmmm Could it be that there are so many factors involved here that the Earth goes through natural cycles that go warm, then cold? During the Ice Age Humans didn't invent cars to warm up the Earth... If the Earth didn't go through cycles of warm, then cold we wouldn't have had the tropical age of the Dinosaurs then the Ice age, then...

Most climatologist don't factor in polar reversals or polar shift into their climate models. Between the changes in solar activity and the changes in the global magnetic field, man's impact on the weather and climate is non-existant. FOr the last century, the north pole has been shifting toward Siberia. While the magnetic poles are moving, the overall magnetic field isn't as cohesive and strong as it is when things are stable and quiet. As a result, more solar radiation is able to penetrate down to the planet's surface. But it's mom in her SUV changing the CO2 level from .038% to .038000001% doing all the damage. |

It's interesting to see data from further back in time too. This is plotted from a study published in 2007 in Marine Micropaleontology.
Looks like some real serious travel by SUV was going on about 1000 years ago! |

So, how all ya FL peeps enjoying what I am right now? Should I mention that it's 41F here in CO right now and yet in Orlando, FL it's 34F. HAHAHAHAHA Though, I do miss FL winters though. It's just nice to see it colder there than here. Oh, not to mention it's colder there with 80% humidity vs 20% here in CO. EDIT: Oh, just to add. These temps were taken at 10:30AM MNT. Keep in mind that FL is 2 hrs ahead so they should be approaching they're warmest part of the day yet here in CO we are still in the rising temp morning hrs. It all goes here when it melts...and yields maybe a 1/2 cup in the sump pit. Basement stays dry!

I'm just wondering if there's also a smug, self-serving, thin-on-facts rationalization for the "CFCs destroy ozone" situation of recent years. Or maybe there's still junk science that denies the long term poisonous effects of DDT. Or perhaps the smog in Denver and LA got better "by a natural cycle", and not because of pollution controls on motor vehicles. When scientists noted these phenomena and raised warnings, the constant response from industry and their duped shills was, "The supposed danger can not be effectively remedied by any measures that would lessen shareholder value" (translation: we only care about the money we stand to make, and the hell with the rest of you). Dang, it's good to be contrary. |

I got some sleet here in Lakeland, no snow. I've seen my fair share living in Boston when I was younger. Got to see some this year in CT while I was there. |

The families of the over 1,000,000 people killed by malaria each year would love to have access to DDT. The tests were skewed and did not reflect actual "in the wild" exposures. |

A thousand years ago they all rode horses, had pack mules, oxen, every family had a cow and chickens, and the bad lands were full of free ranging buffalo. From historical records not a damn one had a catalytic fart re-burner. So that climatic global warming was directly caused by all of those modes of transportation farting methane. |

Fatty, with respect, recent research (by the admittedly left-leaning South Africans) points to continuing problems with DDT exposure... if we count "being born with one nut" as a problem. Birth Defects in areas where DDT is used to control Malaria -- Journal of The British Association of Urological Surgeons I was born as a nut, which is a different issue. |

The study has a limited study group of 3310 people. A larger sample size would bear out better numbers. They sampled villages rather than cities. Both are sprayed with DDT. Villages have lower genetic diversity than do cities generally. It's one study. It's hardly conclusive. As an alternative, the death rate of Malaria in children under 5 is at best 19-17/1000 and at worst in sub-saharan Africa 212-316/1000. AFRICA MALARIA REPORT 2003 So given a 33-41% (10.8% vs. 7.65%) greater risk of being born with one nut or 1 in 3 chance of death. My question is why are as many as 7.65% of the population of villager males being born with one nut? That seems insanely high. I was in a school with 1500 people. Assuming 50% were male, there should have been at least 57 one-nutters running around. I don't remember anyone having the nickname "Half Sack". I think the DDT exposure is a coincidental contributor to the higher statistics rather than a causal influence. |

Speaking of snow... It may be worth noting that with the effort to be more energy efficient many stop lights are being made with LED lighting these days. The LED lights don't produce enough heat to melt snow so it's possible for them to get covered with snow that completely obscures the light. There have been accidents attributed to this already. It doesn't hurt to be aware. |

now they have to install high energy heaters in the lamps to get the snow off. heard that one a couple of weeks ago. it doesn't always pay to go green. |

At least the heaters can be turned off most of the time. I heard about that too. Overall the system can save a good amount of energy. That really isn't a bad thing, but it won't save the world from crisis either. |
