Does somebody make a "knock off"(counterfeit) Buell XB front rotor? I've been snooping eBay for Buell parts to serve my future needs..and just to see what prices are bringing. Found a XB front rotor (used) for cheap. $41.00......so what the hell,I bought it.It came in and it's brandy new! At first,I thought it was freshened up with metal spray or something to make it look good, but it just has some sort of silver coating on it that comes off pretty easy with a scotch pad. It's a steel rotor and it is definitely brand new. What the hell did I get? It came from a Harley dealer and was not in any "factory" packaging nor any ID tags or marks. Weird for the moment.......... |

May have sold it as used because it was taken out of the package or as I really think may have been replaced prior to the bike leaving the dealership with a wavy rotor. |

FYI... Not saying you got a race rotor, but some of the Buell Racing parts came in unmarked packages. |

It has never been mounted. Not a smudge, mark, scratch or any indication of handling. It is exactly the same as a standard rotor as far as the drilled holes in it and it's overall machining shape. The only oddity was a slight copper color of the coating on the OD surface and only between between the mounting lugs. In looking at the sellers feedback, they sold a race rotor too and it looks like it is a bit thicker on the pad surface than a standard rotor, with the mount lugs at the standard thickness. Still weird......... |

Stock rotors are 5mm, race are 6mm. Get a dial caliper on there and measure it, and if it's race...get us the name of the dealer! |

It measures .2205 inch.(5.6007mm) Neither stock or race if 5mm is stock. The X1(stock) is .23 inch(5.842mm) Are you sure 5mm is stock? If so,I have a morphodite..../ |

My stock rotor measures the same .220 Anyone know what the dimple is for?

Is the dimple to indicate the direction of rotation? That surface finish is somewhat odd, isn't it? Did they bead blast it or something? |

Can't speak to the finish, but the dimple is a locating point. Mount rotor with dimple aligned with tire valve. |

Stock rotors come with a cross hatched finish. That looks like it has been bead blasted. |

I took a scuff pad to the rotor and on the perimeter circumference,it shows machining marks on it. The pad surface is smooth with no machining marks at all.Any body have a new XB rotor in stock to compare? The more closer I looked,it does appear to be bead blasted on the pad surface but not on the outside OD. |

I wonder if it weighs the same as a "stock" rotor. |

From the '10 Accessory catalog: Page 4; Buell Racing; item E: Front Brake Disc "6mm thickness, same as used on XBRR, in MotoGT and by successful 1125R motorcycle racers". Page 35, "Controls", item A: "NEW front finned rotor kit, 5mm, drilled". Can't see they'd go *thinner* on an accessory rotor, and I know for a fact that the race rotor is 1mm thicker than stock. |

You can see the difference in the race rotor. The pad surface is thicker and the mounting lugs are the same so that you don't have to use extra hardware to mount the race rotor. . I would guess that the 5mm and 6mm dimensions are nominal and not exact specifications......... |

It looks like an unfinished/unmachined rotor... |

It's not as grainy as the photo shows. Actually, it looks like a finer surface than 1200 grit crocus cloth. |
