Parts> Erik Buell: Workin' on it, workin' on it! Hopefully some stuff will go up on the site this week. But we just started digging stuff out of boxes today, so I don't need any more orders until I can ship!!! Yesterday at 9:08pm 1190RR> Erik Buell: We are definitely behind on this and it's my fault. I don't want to put up the rest of the info on the bikes until we have the prices locked in, and I destroyed the unbacked-up computer that had all the info. We are slowly re-creating the data. The 1190's won't be available right away anyhow, at best one or two may be out by Daytona time. The closing threw a huge hickup into everything, more than I thought. So there is a huge amount of business type work that is consuming us. Getting all the suppliers on board with the new company, re-creating drawings, tools, files and models that were destroyed by mistake. Stuff like that which is understandable after you see it happen, but I didn't expect or plan for it. Building bikes and making power is easy in comparison to all this! Well, maybe not easy, but waay more fun and less frustrating. Yesterday at 9:20pm |

From the times I've met him. Erik has always been a guy who loves to talk to people about motorcycles. I bet he loves every minute of this. |

No. The laptop was knocked to the floor while the HDD was spinning and it got toasted. He was reprimanded for not having a back-up. |

Nothing about $3000 can't fix to have the data reclaimed. The only stuff that might be missing is where the heads actually hit the platters. Suggest to him he try Clonezilla once things are operational again. |

i hope is also realizes that the external HDD attached to the same computer is not a back up. My old work was hit by lighting and fried the pc and the external HDD |

+1 to what Greg said. The company we use for all data recovery we can't do ourselves (aka, the REALLY important stuff) is called Ontrack. They are based out of the twin cities in Minnesota and can get data for round $2000 or so. It's a VERY interesting process as to how they get the data off of a disploded hdd... |

OnTrack is the best in the business. That's who the feds use when they are against the wall. I've had to use them in the past too. Expensive but it the data is recoverable, they will get it. The process sometimes borders on rocket science... Brad |

Rocket science is pretty close to the truth. Oh hey Brad, I know this thread has nothing to do with it and to everyone else I apologize for detouring from the topic, I just had to quick post before I forgot again. Are you going to Homecoming? Andy and I have plans to meet up in the cities to go down from there and it would be cool if we had another BadWebber to ride with! |

I would think you would have all the pcs and laptops used at work connecting to a server for data access. this are basics for any business. I would be happy to recomend on a cheap set up if things are tight. you could build the server and pcs for under 2K or 3K you are going to spend on retreiving the data. |

We use Gillware in Wisconsin for dead drive recovery. Their prices seem to be a bit better, $3-500 for a single drive. $2000 area for a RAID set. |

Those prices sound pretty good, but can Gillware get data off of a HDD that has had holes drilled straight through it? LoL, when we got data off of that drive I was blown away. |

Brother of a friend works civvy for the Gendarmes doing data recovery off confiscated hard drives. He told me the only sure way to prevent recovery is to drop it deep in the ocean or run it through a chipper. Apparently it's good for bodies too, you freeze the corpse then run it through a chipper, preferably on a boat so the fishes can eat the bits. He's a nice lad but weird. Sorry for the hijack, & now back to your regular program. |

the only true way to destroy a harddrive is to melt it in heat. even the ocean you might find t. the chipper works but someone with tons of time could put it back toghether. when you melt it, there is no going back. |

I think the melting releases a toxic gas, safe and legal is to just drill a small hole in case and fill with coca cola. Coke is legal and corrosive, best of both worlds. No I wouldn't know who thought of this or why. |

Target practice. I don't care how good someone is at recovering info, you can't repair bullet holes in a hard drive. |

You can't repair the hard drive, that's very true...you can however still get data off, even with the holes... |
