Yes, a colorful title, but for a very serious issue. Some of you may recall that my family had a pretty tough go of it this past year. In October of 2008, both my Mom and my Sister were diagnosed with breast cancer. My Sister is now past her 1 year mark of being cancer free! YAY PATTI!!! My Mom, however, lost her battle with breast cancer on her 67th Birthday. September 10th, 2009. Mom fought a long and hard battle. All the while her faith and good nature inspired so many people, myself included. I learned things about my Mom that I had never known during that time, and it just made me even more proud to be her son. I also lost my Grandmother, Annie, to breast cancer in 1980. I was young then, and didn't really understand too much of what was going on. I just knew that she was sick. So, I have made a decision that I want to do my best to help fight against breast cancer in the only way that I know how. In October of 2010, I will be joining my Sister in Washington, D.C. for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day breast cancer walk. I will be walking 60 miles over 3 days to raise money and awareness to help in the fight against this terrible disease. I do hope to one day see an end to breast cancer either through prevention, or a total cure. I am walking in honor of my Mom, and Grandmother, and in support and praise of my Sister. As well as to honor every woman, and every family that has suffered due to this disease. I also will walk with the hope that my Daughter Shelby will grow up in a world where there is no longer a threat of breast cancer. A quick fact: One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. How can you help?? I'm glad you asked. I have set a goal for myself to raise $3000 for my walk. If I can raise more, well that would just make me even more happy!! To achieve this goal, all I need is for 120 people to donate just $25 each. This donation is tax deductible to boot!! I'll do the hard part; Walking 60 miles in three days. You do the easy part, click on a link, and donate a bit of money. To make a donation, you can visit my 3-Day walk page: http://www.the3day.org/goto/russ_tyson There you will find a button to make a donation to my walk. If you would rather do it by check. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and print the donation form, and follow the directions found there to fill out and mail a check. I cannot, nor can the foundation, accept cash donations. Also, Patti and I are planning on having a T-Shirt made for the walk for our team (Tyson's Ta-Ta Troops). For a $75 donation, we will put a name on the back of the shirt for you. It can be your name, or someone whom you may want to dedicate your donation to. If you want to have a name on the shirt, email me once you have made your donation and I will put that name on the list. Thank you all in advance!!! I think Pammy had a post like this last year, and the moderators made it Pink, and sticky at the top for a few weeks. Maybe someone can do that for you. |

entered in the local 3 with the s/o. You would think that I was an alien with the looks I got. Do not many men do the walk ? I am doing my part to save the Ta Tas, mom died an early death from breast cancer. And apparently men can get it too, so dont forget to get some screening pointers if it is in your family. |

Not near as many men walk as women. I found while spectating in Atlanta, that the men got more cheers than the women! Yes, men can get it, and I believe the mortality may be higher for men just due to the fact that men don't normally get checked until the cancer is much further along. My sister tested positive for the BRCA1 gene, and Mom tested negative, which means that my Dad is probably positive. I plan on getting tested, and if I am also positive, I will be getting screenings done regularly. |

Oooh... a Hump day Bump!!! Right on! Thanks! Oh, and a Special Thank you to Blake and the Badweb!!! I got an email from the Subaru forum that I have been a member of since 2003. The owner said that I cannot put up a post asking for donations for my walk... Oh well. They did, however, make a $1500 donation to Komen last month, so they aren't all THAT bad... lol. But it does show that Blake, and the Badweb are number 1 in my book!! Thanks again! And thanks to all of you Badwebbers for supporting me!!! |
