If you are not going to the homecoming, this might be worth checking out.

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. -- NASCAR's Nationwide series will stay in Wisconsin next year, shifting its race next year to Road America from the financially troubled Milwaukee Mile.

The twisting road course in central Wisconsin will host a Nationwide race on Saturday, June 19.

That replaces the Milwaukee Mile, which will not host major racing events in 2010. The Wisconsin State Fair Park board of directors, which oversees the Milwaukee track, has been unable to make a deal with a new promoter but still hopes to bring major events back there in 2011.

I wonder what lap times they will turn? I see Mladin qualified with a 2:13 last year, compared to these car lap times: http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Road_America#Typica l_Lap_Times

I thought all NASCAR races were on ovals. When did they introduce the right turn?

About 30 years ago Milt. I can't remember the name, but they used to run a road course in southern California at least back in the 80's. They have Sears Point (Infineon), Watkins Glen and one in Canada that the 2 top series run now.

Do you think it's possible to make homecoming and the race?

I live in Mooresville NC and was considering homecoming. It would be cool to catch the race too.

PS. First road race I can find was Watkins Glen in 1957. Buck Baker won it.

Nationwide series also runs a road course in Mexico.

2 cylinders I think. It is considered the "minor" league for NASCAR. Cars are not quite as fast, as the top series. When I lived in Milwaukee I could always hear the cars racing from my house which was about 1.5 miles from the track. It was kinda a boring race there, so moving it to Elkhart Lake will be a nice change.

Wow. All I've seen is the left turn, repeat variety.

I'll bet the road race is a lot more interesting!

It pisses me off in the video games, I had a Dayota/Taladega spec car so dialed in it pretty much had cruise control. Point and shoot, no need to steer left in the turns. First time doing Sears point, I ended up in the wall after turn 2 so fast....

There's not a lot of difference between the 2 series now. Both run sb V8s. Nationwide cars are still using the "old" bodies, but they're phasing in new bodies this year. Nationwide is like minor league in baseball but on most weekends, the Nationwide race is full of Sprint Cup drivers. I believe a Sprint Cup driver has one the Nationwide series title for the last several years.

I like watching the road course races. It's funny to watch these guys manhandle these overweight cars around some curves.

They call it whoever forks over the cash this year. I never made the connection with Winston cup and Winston cigarettes until AFTER they switched to Nextel cup.

Like Gotlime says...the nationwide series allows older Sprint Cup pieces to be used one more time before they are sold to privateers.

It was a hell of a lot simpler to keep up with when it was just the "Grand National" series with no named sponsor. Of course that went out 40 years ago...

Road racing with these cars is pretty fun to watch. Ricky Rudd used to be one of the better drivers on road courses as he was one of the few that knew how to do "heel and toe" shifting/braking. For at least a couple of the race, the network (ESPN?) mounted a camera inside the car pointing at the pedals and would periodically show it during the race. That dude got a serious workout on every lap!

BTW- they did run V-6's in the "lower league" series for at least a couple of years. The problem was the teams had to spend huge amounts of money to develop competitive V-6's; they WEREN'T just V-8's with 2 cylinders lopped off. The series then reverted to V-8's so that the teams could use all the research paid for by the top-notch teams. IIRC, they are now limited to lower compression ratios and maybe smaller carburetors to limit power and reduce stress on the engines.

I am looking forward to it but am still waiting for the Homecoming schedule to be announced. I have been hoping that something would come there now that the IRL/CART no longer comes. There was strong hope it would be on this years calendar but alas probably the best or second best road course in America is not on the IRL schedule.

Nationwide series has been talking about switching to "pony cars" in the next few years. Camaros, Mustangs and Challengers.

I went to the last BGN race at Riverside raceway( I was very young ), and I remember the dozers and graders outside the track terracing the hills for the housing tract that was to take over the facility. It was a cool track, that was back in the 70s I think.

The road course races are where its at in NASCON. The similarities to the trilogy of tech are alive in four wheel racing. This should be a good race to see as the cup regulars probably won't be able to race so there should be some wild cards filling the field. The fans with an interest beyond Dale Jr. will like the racing that weekend with some sporty support groups. Keen eyed motorcycle race fans will see NASCAR at VIR pretty regular testing.
