Travis Pastrana is what Knievel wished he was.

The guy does it for fun and the rush. If it makes a good show then thats good too.

The guy just makes me feel good.

I have seen interviews and in car camera of his rally stuff. He seems to be a very down to earth guy and very nice. Making time for fans and not cursing or getting angry when everybody else does.

Evel Knievel was certainly NOT a wimp. I don'tknow about you, but I would have quit after the first hospitalization. If he had the equipment these guys have, I'll bet he would have the balls to jump further than any of them. Just my opinion.

You only need look at Wembley, where he knew he wouldn't make it. They said they'd take a couple of buses out. Evel said they wouldn't!

Looking down that ramp many wouldn't have walked it, never mind ridden down it to take off......

Granted, what Travis does, puts me in awe...........but take away his body armor, tens of thousands of dollars of computer calculations, the very best ramps, bikes and other equipment..and all he has in common with Evel is dumb balls of steel.Give him an old Bonneville or XR,a truck load of plywood and 2x4's and a tape measure and see how he does.In the early days,Evel didn't even use gloves! Travis is a better 'Robbie'. Robbie is a better 'Evel'.......but Evel will never be equalled.

I have to disagree with you on that. It takes a lot of talent, not just balls, to jump a bike like that. But to call Evel a wimp is almost blasphemy to any American male in my age group. I remember painting my bicycle red, white and blue when I was in kindergarten, and making ramps out of anything I could find. He was larger than life for a lot of us. Almost a real life superhero.

Travis actually grew up about 30 minutes from where I live in a town called Bedford, PA. When he was doing motocross my local suzuki dealer was his sponser(Cernics suzuki).

Pretty cool to see some local talent on tv during new years eve.

All of these stunt riders and daredevils should bow down to Evil...If it wasn't for Evil these whimps would'nt be who they are today. Just like most of us on here they all grew up idolizing him and if they did not then they idolized someone who did idolized Evil. Remember they are jumping on or in modern equipment and they are just barely jumping further than Evil did. Do a side by side combo of the jumps and equipment those guy rode to what Evil rode...Then just imagine what Evil could have done on a CR500 like the one his son jumped over the fountains!!!

Travis is great and I like him. But I bet he would be the whimp and chicken out if you asked him to jump the fountains on an 1970's XR750 that Evil rode!!!

I dont think it is a fair comparison either. Travis is an all around better athlete, he is involved in more than just the stunts. if we were comparing just stunts and equipment, then Evil might get the edge due to technology he used at the time.

However if you look at what travis has contributed to, and actually did good at, he would win my vote hands down....Example.. Supercrass,Motocross, offroad( Erzburg and Baja 1000 enduro's),FMX,motard, Rally Car,trophy trucks, nevermind the entertainment of Nitro circus movies and shows

Paw,

Evil's longest jump was attempted was 151 ft. Sorry my man Patrana just did 269 in a car. Motocross stunter's are doing 400 and making it. New modern equipment or not that impact is serious stuff. Some think that xr750 he rode was a tank but in reality it was smidge over 300 lbs. heavy but I can see where you'd think way more.

Plus Travis gets to hang out with Jolene and all her friends! Awesome! Hot babes that can actually ride!

I think Travis talked about Evil in his documentary movie 199 lives. Not that he really owes him any thing tho. thats like saying Tom brady should thank Dan Marino for making football a better game.

Sorry for the football referance its the first thing i could think of.

Don't be harshing on Evel Knievel.

He'll call Chuck Norris from the grave and tell him to kick your ass.

Chuck will do it, cuz Evel taught him how to be a badass.

I think it is funny when people think Evel is a wimp. The guys nowadays, including Evel's son has A: better equipment, as in more powerful, lighter bikes/cars(how much did that Skycycle weigh?) better protection B: better planning, no computers back in Evels' day to pinpoint his landing based on speed, weight, wind, elevation and whether he took a crap before he jumped. How many guys do this now? Evel was the pioneer, and he will always be remembered as the best, regardless of how many of his records get beaten. So if Evel was a wimp, then what does that make us who just stand there and watch? Happy New Year!

Travis was born in Annapolis MD and I'm pretty sure he grew up there and his parents still live there. He now lives in Davidsonville MD (Annapolis area).

Comparing the two would be kind of like comparing George Washington's crossing of the Potomac with row boats and muskets to a half dozen marines in a fast attack boat with 50 cal machine guns.

Who gets the accolades for ever in the book of legends? Ask Buzz Aldrin.

No doubt the Nitro Circus people are out there, they put on a crazy good show. Travis' dad is a nut case too.

You Gotta admire Pastrana,(always have)but Robbie Maddison jump last year may trump Pastrana's. I heard Pastrana tried to get
Brian Vickers to ride along.. that's funny.

Man, Robbie Maddison has a pair of brass ones! Going up that ramp was crazy, but going back down is where he earned it that night. Tons of respect for the man.
