The bike was in England, built and owned by a chap named Neil Johnson, who sold it when he was living in Norway coaching a professional soccer team. The original engine was not an XR1000, but a Sputhe XR1300 that he raced in the BoTT series many years back. It was forsale, complete but in pieces, about 5 or 6 years ago for about $12,000. I think someone in Germany bought the motor and, of course, the chassis found it's way here. Problem being, hardly anyone knows about Spondon, so, from a collector's standpoint, an early Buell might be a wiser acquisition. But, that's just me. There is another Spondon bike in California, and while it's quite a work of motorcycle art, my suspicion is the seller will not get his asking price for a non-runner. If it had the original power plant, in running order, it might work for that kind of money. |

I'd buy it and bring it back to the UK if it were not so silly a price. Would make a great Streetfighter. Junk the bodywork and do what we Brit's are so good at when it comes to the art of streetfighter building....... Rocket |
