I got my issue of Motorcyclist Magazine in the mail today. I didn't see my letter printed in MC mail. I wonder if they just tossed the letters pertaining to the Buell murder, or did they get a visit from a couple of big, tattooed, ponytailed, studded vest wearing pirates who may have "advised" them to do so. After all, there are big advertising dollars at stake. Whats up with that? |

It is possible they get hundreds of letters, so they can only print a handful of them. I haven't written to a mag in years, but I have never had one published. Although the big smelly hairy guy theory might be accurate... |

AMA mag had practically nothing about the demise of BUELL........even tho they have had some BUELL advertisement money.......and that probably pales to the h-d advertisement money..... |

I don't expect them to print every letter, but if they got say 15 letters pertaining to the same subject, wouldn't they print one of them. I suspect they got more than that from Badweb alone. |

Funny thing about magazines... most of them, anyway; we really like to have the facts on our side before "telling it like it is." As an editor (American Rider), Teddagreek, I'd be happy to "tell it like it is" if I saw some facts that indicated there was misdeed, or illegal activity. To date, I've seen none. I think Harley's move re Buell stinks, but who cares what I think if that's all it is is emotional opinion. If you have those facts Tedda (or anyone) I'd be happy to hear them. |

Reg, Since when do actions have to be illegal before journalists who represent a community will speak out? Were the actions of DMG "illegal"? When Moto-GP went from 1000 cc to 800 cc, did journalists say: "Well, they didn't do anything 'illegal' so I guess we can't talk about it." Harley lied when they said Buell was "too integrated to sell". When a company like Harley blatently lies in justifying an action, shouldn't journalists ask questions? When Harley refuses to answer those questions, can't journalists use their publications to PUSH for answers? I agree there are a lot of missing facts. Isn't it the responsibility of journalists to find those facts? |

+1, what Reg said. I spent 4 1/2 years selling them and I have my opinions. My opinion of what happened: Asshats at HD ruled against logic and reason. Erik Buell IS the future of American sportbike riding. Just my opinion. I am curious as to how many folks had the gumption to write all the various media sources and vent. Nothing much has been seen by my eyes in print. Happy 2010 to all you Buell nuts.... |

How about why H-D is not selling Buell how bout why they bought MV Augusta how bout why a Co. making uproads in a dead economy isn't sold . I am getting sore at all the chicken crap I see and read and the only thing I can do is not read those crap rags anymore.Spin doctors and insider trading up to my ears and nones says shyt sbout it cause the money don't follow the truth. I surely am not giving money to an organisation that won't write what needs to be said because of money and thats what it is that is not journalism thats whoreing!!!!!!!!! |

"Harley lied when they said Buell was "too integrated to sell". OK, Elvis, then what's the truth if you know this to be a lie? I'm not trying to start an argument here, but it gets a little tiresome hearing about how "the media" has failed to do their job. This often translates into, the media didn't print what you wanted to hear. There IS a story here... no doubt about it. It's unfortunate, however, that it can't evolve soon enough to meet everyone's needs. What is it that "needs to be said", Brumbear? ...and btw, did you know that Harley was one of three motorsports companies that proved to be a solid investment in 2009? (The other two were Polaris and Arctic Cat). None of us may like to hear this, but the investment community couldn't give a rat's ass about Buell. All it wants is a proper ROI, and it got it. |

If you are a jounalist and don't get after that load of crap thats on you and practice do you want fries with that? cause that might be the next career you could expect. This is absolute spin doctor crap H-D pays a ton of advertising bucks so they won't get burned it's the Golden rule if ya got the gold ya make the rules I don't make a living with this crap I enjoy motorcycles Buell motorcycles and I want to keep enjoying them. And H-D is full of shyt I don't have 1 day of college and I know that. |

OK, Elvis, then what's the truth if you know this to be a lie? The truth is the rights to manufacture (at least water-cooled Buell motorcycles) could very easily be sold. The vendors have all the tooling and the ability to manufacture all of the parts used to make Buell motorcycles. We KNOW that the vendors can still make those parts because Harley has agreed to make those parts available for the next 7 years, but Harley refuses to allow anybody to work directly with those vendors to buy those parts and assemble those parts into motorcycles. It would only take a stroke of a pen for Harley to sell those rights. We KNOW that the rights can be sold so it becomes purely a matter of price. If Harley had said: "We can sell Buell, but we choose not to because the relatively small amount of cash we would get for the rights would not justify us allowing a competitor to exist.", I could at least believe that statement. I'm still waiting for the hard evidence before I make the effort so that it is more than just my worthless opinion. There is a fine line between a magazine finding the truth and the advertising revenue from the parent company. And I would expect that none of the entertainment magazines like all of these motorcycle mags don't want to get too close to that line. Wall Street Journal - maybe, NYTimes - if they survive. |

Elvis... What you state is a reasonable scenario. However, this is conjecture on your part, not fact. Greg... That's true to a certain extent, but not with every pub. I've no problem writing critically of The Motor Company. Check out my current column in American Rider as an example. |

But it is a fair bit easier when you have nice facts to back things up. Otherwise it is just another editorial that may or may not be based on facts. |

But if the story was Ural may be killing people with a possible lead based paint they would be all over it without much fact, I am not kidding you see crap like this all the time. |

The big media has zero interest in this story. They aren't going to waste their time, money and energy looking for smoke over a story that has very little interest outside of the Buell community. As far as most people are concerned, Buell closing is the story. The details are of little concern to non-Buell types. As long as HD didn't commit fraud or some other illegal act no one cares and since there is no evidence of illegality, expect no one to waste time looking for it. |

There in lies the reason they (hd) did what they did no one cares to find out and for that I can only spew as much antih-d crap and never buy another h-d product nor will my kids when they start riding if they do. There are 10 people in my neighborhood with bikes when I moved here in 95 the numbers were about the same and most were H-D now there is 1 guy with a sportster he is about 60 and the rest are english and japonese. My wish is gonna come true I know it. I also can't wait till the Indian Harley Davidsons start rolling off the line in Madrass India.Intrducing the twinty bibteen sbortser |
