So I have been without the Buell about 6 months this year due to parts delays, non availability, and of course the factory closing down. I owe about what a brand new one costs. I have come to the realization that this bike will not allow me to ride the way I like to ride. I need a lighter, nimbler more durable Dual Sport bike. It is where I enjoy spending my time. So do I keep it, bite the bullet, put street tires on it and leave it off the dirt.... or do I sell it for what I can, and use the space in the garage for the new Dual sport? I wouldnt feel like such a traitor if I could have put another BUELL in its place; but we all know that aint gonna happen. Oh, yeah, its a cityX that I treat like a Ulysses. (with varying levels of success apparently) Or maybe my brand of adventure is more rugged than the platform was designed for.... damnit. |

Personally I would put Scorpions on it and then only take it down the light stuff, and get a true dirt squirter for the heavy stuff. The CityX is a great tool, but it just isn't meant for your use. It is like a scalpel, but you are trying to use it like a steak knife. Get yourself a steak knife. |

Froggy's two favorite subjects-Buells and food. Go figure. I've been browsing on Craigslist, you can get KLR's pretty cheap. Being the tinkerer you are, you can trick them out pretty well to suit your needs. I'm with Froggy though, keep the CityX and see if you can get a better dirt bike. |

The Scorpions Syncs will handle most of what you want to do. If you sell the Buell you'll always be thinking "maybe I shoulda kept it". Pick up a KLR or a DR or a yam super-ten for the real mud. Happy new year |

HA! I think a KLR weighs more than the CityX! The predicament you're in is that you have to give up something to get something else. Right now, you can take your CityX through the mud, and then hop on the highway for a comfortable ride to wherever should you need to. If you got something like a KLR, it won't be all that great in the dirt or on the street, but mostly capable in both. Something like a DRZ 400 S would be better in the dirt as long as you aren't looking to do any motorcross style stuff, and just barely passable on the street. This really depends on what kind of trails you like to ride, how much street riding you need to do with it and so on. I've been thinking really hard about adding a DRZ to my stable, but NY state is pretty lousy about providing trails for anything but snowmobiles, so I'm trying to figure out if there's even places I can ride it. |

I traded in a 96 KLR250 and a 96 Vulcan VN800 to get the Buell..... I felt that two fiddy was under powered for my chunky butt... the newer 250's seem to open up a bit more.... Damnit. |

I don't think even a "new" 250 will do much - I don't think they'll push much past 50-60 mph. |

hey city, can i ask what the heck youve been waiting on so long? dont you still work at the dealer? usually if i make enough calls i can scrounge up whatever. especially for xb's. it may be back door "not by the official process" stuff, but sometimes thats how it has to be to get it done. i just worry about the red tape later and get stuff back on the road. |

Oh no, you missed the news. I left the HD dealer a year ago. went out on my own with a friend and did the biz for the spring summer and fall.... and then found myself in grad school for healthcare management and insurance... (which is where I was before I came to the bike industry) I figure if I have to play silly corporate back stabby political games, I am going to be making bank. I did motorcycles cuz it was fun.... the down turn in the economy sucked ALOT of the fun & money out of the biz for me. So, if I am going to be back in the 9-5 sector; then I am going to run it for all it is worth, and retire in ten years. Unless the mayans were right and it all resets in 2012 I spent all summer on loaner DS/SM bikes... it is more my style. |

Oh and the bike damage was self induced 1.5 months for head bearing repair 3.5 months for a complete azz end rebuild .5 months for electrical ECU issues (not stock exhaust) The long period there was because Buell shut their doors during a back ordered process.... gotta love it. Its all fixed now, except the bike is snowed in 280 miles away. I guess I get to see it in spring. |

5-6 28 inch inseam, it is why I am not on the ULY to begin with. And all of the durability issues would have been the same as I ride where ULYs go all the time, Hell I am chasing KTMs and DRZs with the thing. The Buell Dirty Rooster would have been the scoot to get, before they axed it, then killed the company. |

I know your vertically challenged, but with a the Uly suspension travel being SOO much better then the X, you would have ZERO problems. Being 5-6 and 28 inch inseam, you may have a hard time with any bike truely made for your needs. BTW, i would love to ride your roads one day, sounds fun. |

the piston case is in a precarious location and aspect for me.... I dont know how many times I have bashed that portion of the bike The dirt forest roads out here are the best things ever. They are the ONLY thing keeping me from relocating. |
