That we took concession to help G.E. and Forbes magazine names Immelt the most over paid CEO in the world as in a companies return against the CEO pay...He made $14.4 million an 18% increase from last year all this while G.E. lost 12% profit from last year. A profit loss of $3.6 billion. let's show that for what it really is. $3,600,000,000. Wonder how many CEO's got a raise while there companies lost money from the previous year. (I would say 99% of them) I saw there was one on the list that took a pay cut. Can not remember who it was though. Corporate greed at it's best. |

There is no agency in the world more broken or bankrupt than the federal government. One year ago . . . there was ONE PERSON in the Department of Transportation who made $170,000 a year. Today there are 1,761 folks making $170,000 or more a year. The three wealthiest counties in America have shifted the last year and are now the three counties in Virginia that border Washington, DC. The same administration that was going to "drain the swamp" or lobbyists (Nancy Pelosi quote) and who promised "no more lobbyists" has more lobbyists than anytime in history. In the last year government employment (again in conflict with campaign promises) has been the fastest growing in the country. Government salaries have risen faster than any sector in history and now run 31% over private industry. General Electric, if this health care debacle passes, stands to benefit more than any single firm with it's proprietary electronic medical records system. General Electric has been busy:
quote:The good old cash-for-favors system, known as lobbying, is in full swing again, with General Electric valiantly leading the pack of beltway brown-nosers, having spent $7.2 million in Q1 for various lobby purposes. This represents a 60% increase over the $4.5 million spent in Q1 and $1.8 million over Q2 of 2008. Ironically, General Electric, which with AIG, is at the forefront of hobbled companies who continue existing solely thanks to generous taxpayer bailouts in various forms, was by far the biggest lobbying contributor, with only Chevron spending over $6 million in Q2 of 2009. GE's $7.2 million represents a recycled taxpayer spend to promote private interests of $160,000 for every single day that Congress was in session. General Electric has spent a mindblowing $187 million (or formerly mindblowing, now that people openly ridicule any number without 12 zeros behind it, courtesy of Ben Bernanke's well greased printers) on lobbying over the past decade, 44% more than runner up Northrop Grumman.
http://www.zerohedge.com/article/cnbcs-parent-stat ion-general-electric-q2s-top-lobby-spender-72-mill ion-60-increase-q1 General Electric has also been smart enough to control perception by purchasing (and dictating editorial content for, NBC and MSNNC.
quote:Instead, GE is now openly and proudly boasting of their editorial control over the news organizations they own, and publicly rubbing it in the faces of NBC News journalists that they're subservient to GE's corporate agenda. Look at this smug, creepy quote from GE executive spokesman Gary
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/08/03/ general_electric/ The fattest cats of the last year, in terms of pure unabated greed, is government and the unions (see UAW, SEIU and ACORN). I'm not a supporter of Imelt but Wall Street and Corporate America pale in comparison to the feds and unions. |

>>>Id be pissed if I had voted for him based on some of those issues. Folks are. Is base has eroded terribly as he continues to not just break but shatter promises. His "no more earmarks" pledge was laughable . . there were thousands of earmarks (do we really need to know why pig crap stinks or where college kids hookup?) in the stimulus bill. There were over 5,000 ridiculous earmarks in the recent military funding bill. The idiots know that nobody will vote against military funding and hide their pet projects in it.
quote:Nelson's health care vote is clearly dragging his numbers down. Just 17% of Nebraska voters approve of the deal their senator made on Medicaid in exchange for his vote in support of the plan. Overall, 64% oppose the health care legislation, including 53% who are Strongly Opposed. In Nebraska, opposition is even stronger than it is nationally. Fifty-six percent (56%) of voters in the state believe that passage of the legislation will hurt the quality of care, and 62% say it will raise costs.
Obama's support has dropped faster than any President in history. |

When I worked for Citi the company paid $1.4 billion in fines for illegal activities, and the same year Sandy Weill took a $16MM bonus. That $1.4 BB in fines came out of the shareholders hide, and a big part of the illegal activities were traced directly back to Weill. Look up the GE stock rating manipulation with Grubman for reference. Most of these guys have bigger entitlement issues than a 3rd generation welfare recipient. The recent Wall Street Journal article clearly showed that companies with the highest paid top executives performed the poorest and return the least to shareholders (the damn owners of the company). As long as corporate boards are intertwined, nothing will change. Goldman finally got addressed. The shareholders asked why most of the profits go out the door to the employees in bonus, and hardly anything is left for the owners of the company. Things changed there a few weeks ago, big time. |

Court, I agree with you in regards to federal pay. I live in the D.C. region and there is no shortage of federal pork. However, I found different stats for the top 50 municipalities with highest per capita personal income. Maybe, your rankings are for the actual county governments and not the income of the citizens???? 1. Teton County, Wyo., $132,728 2. New York $120,790 3. Loving County, Texas, $99,593 4. Pitkin County, Colo., $93,465 5. Marin County, Calif., $91,483 6. Fairfield County, Conn., $81,576 7. Westchester County, N.Y., $74,878 8. San Mateo County, Calif., $71,753 9. Morris County, N.J., $71,713 10. San Francisco, Calif. $71,342 11. Somerset County, N.J., $70,949 12. Alexandria, Va., $70,632 13. Arlington County, Va., $68,270 14. Fairfax County, Va. (includes Fairfax City and Falls Church), $67,909 15. Montgomery County, Md., $67,525 http://money.aol.com/article/50-municipalities-wit h-highest-per/490738 If you go by states with the highest per capita personal income: Maryland - definitely affected by Federal spending New Jersey Connecticut Alaska Hawaii Massachusetts New Hampshire Virginia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/States_of_the_United_ States_of_America_by_income |

Where is that nice African-American lady who was elated over Obama's win and exclaimed, "Oh thank God Obama won, no more mortgage payments!"? Now there is a good chance that lady was right. She either got thrown out and had her home repossessed, or she now works for the administration making over $170,000 a year. |

More likely . . working as one of those $240,000/year librarians for the State of New York. By the way . . New York City is not a "county". New York City is composed of 5 counties.

Well . . EVERYBODY . . under this administration is getting theirs. We just got $186,000,000 we didn't ask for. I got my L.E.E.D. AP Certification last year and one thing I have found is that anything that has the word "green" or "sustainable" in the title is an immediate target to get bombarded with money from the government. Don't get me wrong . . . there are some important things that need to be done but at the moment they have their horse and cart backwards and think that simply funding something that looks shiny is "responsible". It's blatant wasteful spending. The only good thing that's happened for the sustainability effort was having Van Jones' ass canned. |

I lost a good job back in April, underemployed since then. I tried to get an Obama loan modification. No dice, because I have savings and still make my mortgage payments. You have to be close to missing payments with no money put away for retirement or your kids college if you want help. If you were not part of the problem, you can't get any assistance. |

I forgot to add one thing that Immelt did to saved his job...He cut stock dividends and saved the company $13 billion dollars. If he would not have pissed off the stock holders by cutting the dividends G.E. would have had a 90% profit lose from the previous year...It amazes me nobody can see that fact!!! Give back the dividends and Immelt does not have his CEO job!!! Not to mention G.E. was fined $50,000,000 for lying about profits in 2007 this under Immelt. Several big wigs lost their job over that but he was not one of them. It just amazes me how much one person can F up and still have a job. I'm in the union and he has better job security than I do...I work on jobs that range from $1,000,000 (a raw forging) to $15,000,000 (the final machining process). I will tell you, You don't want to F it up!!! Big concequences will come your way. (Message edited by paw on December 31, 2009) |

Paw, At the Mr. Immelt's level, you don't get fired - you are allowed to resign. Then you collect millions in golden parachute payments. You might even get to exercise your stock options. So much for responsibility. |

GE has always owned NBC. In fact, if you listen to the three tones that used to be played when the NBC peacock spread it's wings, the notes are G-E-C. The question is, when did the corporates take over the news. It wasn't always like that. |

If you really want to get sick, look at the situation this way. You could have bought 56,214 Immelts for what was pissed away in the "stimulus" bill. Assuming someone started being CEO at 45 and worked until 65 (20 year post as CEO), we are looking at 2810 Immelt career lifetimes. I don't worry as much about what ONE CEO makes. I worry most about what one Commander in Chief pisses away. |

My girlfriend asked me today why my sons roommate who is 19 or 20 years old, chronicly unemployed, has never worked a day in his life and has no forseeable future has a "Bridge Card"(food stamp card that is just a debit card that can be used for anything) I told her if we contacted the right group we would probably be eligible for one also. I see it more clearly now what I go to work for everyday, simply to keep the balance even. There will be a great civil war someday between the workers and the takers and we will loose because there will be too many of them. It will be horrible and I dread it |

I don't understand why, instead of giving trillion dollar bailouts to the organizations that take advantage of the people and having to borrow all the money from another country to do it, the people were not given a 2010 tax break.... no one pays taxes for a year. The government only takes in about 2 or 3 trillion dollars in taxes from the people in a year, and a tax break would help the poeple who deserve it.... the ones who have jobs and pay taxes. probably hard to do... but makes more sense to me. |

You can call me a secretary for $187,000/yr. You can call me dickhead for that salary. Pay is always an interesting beast. When I was hired, I wasn't told just how much trouble financially it was in. I was brought in at a fairly low salary because of that. Then we were bought by another company which had pay freezes and no merit increases (or any others for that matter). We recently hired a junior person and my manager and I were discussing their salary. When I mentioned that wasn't much less than mine. She denied that and then looked at what I was making. Turns out, that the two companies had different scales for positions. I'm at the low end of my pay scale, whereas the new person is near the top as a junior person. Makes me wonder what some of the newer people are making...hmm. But we're going to work on that this year, maybe I'll see some extra $$$. Point is, as Court will attest, NYC is unlike any other city in the US. Want to buy a bagel, that's $8, coffee will cost you $2-3, parking and housing is out of this world. Plus there is city tax, state tax, and federal tax all coming out of your salary at payday. I was very glad not to work in the City when I lived in NJ. I simply don't know how people do it. Federally, we all knew things would get bloated under the Obama administration. I just don't think most people knew to what degree they would get bloated.
