I would appreciate any information/insights on what I can expect to encounter when trying to register a used Buell Blast . . .purchased in Oregon . . .for use by my SO Mari in California. I anticipate most of her riding to be in the Bay Area, and I am guessing that after a time having Oregon plates on the bike might attract the attention of a random LEO? I seem to recall some discussion here about bikes of a certain mileage/age being able to be registered while new-ish bikes having a hard time getting plated? There are several Blasts in the Bay Area that are possibilities, although there is certainly better value for dollar spent up here in Oregon. If the process is to cumbersome for plating an Oregon bike in California . . .the Bay Area bikes begin to look pretty good. Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice. Don |

AFAIK, the bike if not a 50 state bike, needs to have 7500 miles, AND be registered outside of CA previously. also the bike has to NOT be on a black list of bikes attempted to be registered in CA illegally, the VIN can be checked at the DMV for blacklisting. other than that, it is pretty easy. |

it will be hard to find a blast with over 7,500 miles. just suck it up and get a CA Blast. Ask EZ he has a whole fleet of bikes. |

There are some good deals on Blasts on craigslist. Look in the San Francisco area. I'm in northern Cal. if it helps. |

Thanks for all the help and direction. At this point, I don't think it is worth looking at any of Oregon bikes .. .they are all well below the 7500 mark on the odo. As one of the links proposed . . .it seems to have little to do with emissions control, rather is all about insuring cash flow for California dealers and owners. Oh well . . .with a little luck I may save myself a bunch of miles with a trailer chasing me. . . .unless, of course (and I put this out as a pure hypothetical) someone might have a used Blast speedo for sale out there - one with over 7500 miles showing? Thanks again, Don |

Don: Be aware that there are some very competent "Blast-heads" in and around the Bay area. You might have them raise the antenna and be on the lookout for a California Blast. It's save you one unnecessary round in a ring you rather not be in. If you need me to send her any BLAST info in preparation, such as an owner's manual, just let me know and I'll have one zapped off from Milwaukee. |
