After all the hooplah with the whole Salvation Army thing, yesterday I went and blew what Christmas money I had left and stocked up on toys which I gave to none other than the Salvation Army, and both the church I was baptized at and the local Islamic temple. My church and the Salvation Army were welcome of the gifts but I had to explain to the Mosque why I was giving them gifts when they don't practice Christmas. In which I told him a group of people changed my mind on the whole gift giving bit of Christmas. Christian or not, everyone should be entitled to a gift of some type for I feel now that people of Islamic belief may feel left out this time of year. This way they can have something, may not be much but it is something. Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to all. Phil. |

Well done. Curious: what was the reaction after you said that? Paraphrasing one of your guys: you don't have to have the same belief, but you have to defend the same right to believe. Or lose your right as well. The rest is details. I remember being struck by the teaching that God's greatest gift to us was the paradox of Free Will, whether we want it or not. Merry Christmas, you helped make it real. |

You freakin' rock. That's exactly what the religion I was raised in -- Christianity, at least my parents' version -- is about. |

His reaction after I said that was he was dumbstrucked, as if he couldn't figure out why a baptized catholic would donate to an Islamic mosque. I figured since they get so much flak for being Muslim, why not show that a white catholic can care. I called him earlier today and he said everything I gave was given, and forever shall I be blessed and in the hearts of those who feel so isolated in this current age. All this was definitely an epitome of what the holidays should be all about, not to mention a self-esteem booster. BadWeB turned out to be more than a Buell forum, enough so that it's changed me and my views on the holidays. Again, Thanks to those who've changed my mind and thanks to those who been supportive. Thanks!! And everybody have a hellacious New Year!! |
