I have a Festivus pole just like that...only it has branches and lights and decorations...but I DO find tinsel distracting, so no tinsel on my festivus pole.

I LOVE Festivus! It's so demulcent.

It's an ALUMINUM pole. Aluminum has a high strength to weight ratio.
