"Why was there disdain for Buell?" Probably for the same reasons so many of us dislike the whole cruiser scene with the chrome and leather, etc. |

On a related topic, I bought a 2010 Buell Bolt jacket (heavily discounted) shortly after October 15. The jacket didn't include back armor but Buell's website mentions that armor from the "FXRG" line will fit. I correctly reasoned that FXRG had to refer to something Harley sells and sure enough I found an FXRG jacket on Harley's site with a separate listing for the back armor. Oddly enough, Harley's site included an option to order the armor on-line (?). I had to select my local dealer (Lowcountry HD in Charleston, SC) and then I placed the order on-line and had it shipped to my house. How convenient. How long ago did several people here suggest that this was EXACTLY what Buell needed to have since most dealers stocked little-to-no Buell apparel? Court- does this fall into the same category as your 1997 story above? |

There were a LOT of folks who were really pissed when Erik had the self confidence (during, by the way, tough economic times) to walk away from a GREAT job at Harley-Davidson to pursue his dream. Many warned him "you'll be sorry". As he continued to work hard and succeed these folks got madder and madder. I've seen the wrath of about 7 of them but I know there are more. In THEIR eyes they saw Buell as making Harley-Davidson look bad. I never did, they never stopped. For a fun perspective . . . read Louis Rukeyser's "Success Offends Bureaucrats" column from back in the early 1970's. |

The Harley-Davidson online shopping setup is such that even though you're shopping through the corporate website, the fulfilment is through the dealer network. That's why you had to select a dealership. The order was actually filled at the dealership level. And not all dealers participate - it's opt-in. Now. Apply that same structure to Buell, and you can see how it wouldn't work out quite so well. ->ChelleM |

I just clicked on the Facebook icon so I could share it with my friends. Instead, it tried to put me into My Space (which I cancelled a long time ago). When I clicked on the My Space icon, I got a dialog box with a bunch of gobbledegook. Oh well. I can actually call friends and tell them to buy bikes instead. I know, how old fashioned! :-) |

Heads-up on the black CR at High Desert HD in Meridian ID, it is a painted special the dealership did, so while they probably get the incentives they also want to get some money back for the paint. They call the paint Alien and it resembles the creature from the movies, it's almost ghosted in, dark grey on the black. I got a call from one of the sales guys telling me they were willing to give on the price now, previously it was listed at over 10K firm. Kinda cool bike. I saw some of their pics when it was listed on cycle trader, can't find it there now... if anyone wants some details I'll get you in touch with the guy I talked to, seemed a decent enough guy. (Jeff or greg, but I forget which, I can call him back for you though). |
