Got up this morning to go to work, walked out to the driveway and fell right on my butt. Hard. Ice over everything. Backed out of the driveway and heard the sound of metal grinding on metal. Denial. Drove forward, and sure enough, trucks broke. Now what? I HAVE to get to work today, we have explosives coming from 300 miles away and I need to be there. I hated to even think about riding the Uly on this ice, but there's nobody to give me a lift on such short notice. Grab my gear and off I go. HOLY %$#@ MAN WAS THAT FUN. I was surprised at how good the traction was on that stuff. I didn't dare TOUCH the front brake. Nice smooth and easy goes it and you could really get cooking, for riding on ice anyway. I'm glad I read Reg Pridmores book (smooth riding I think it's called). I just wish I wasn't on public roads so I could play around a little. Saw a few wrecks though on the way. Didn't look like anything more than fender benders. When I got to the job, everyones jaws dropped when they saw that big bad Uly tear up the hill. What a great morning. Turns out the grinding sound was a bearing that holds the driveshaft up let go. Now I get to ride in tomorrow too. I hope the roads are dry. |

It doesn't always turn out so good. I guess it is 'easier' if you know what to expect. Glad you had fun. I remember taking a 90 deg left hand turn at about 15 mph with hidden black ice before that corner. I found myself up and running after my sliding gsxr. Hole in clutch cover, no left foot peg, etc. I stuck a rag in the leaking hole, and road the rest of the way to work and then home that day. Memories... |

I love it! Hard core through and through. I was tempted to do that yesterday in the ice as well, but it looks like your pair is bigger than mine. |

it looks like your pair is bigger than mine. Trust me, I made more than my fair share of girl noises in my helmet. |

Well what is a little motorcycle ride to a guy who admits he is on his way to play with explosives? If I recall a little icey road rash is nothing to being partially vaporized if you have a bad day! |

I rode the TW200 on the ice the other day coming home from work. I found a dry spot while sliding sideways. Guessed right about the extra angle I needed to lean it to keep from high siding. Had a lot of fun and a few pucker moments like entering the icy 25 mph curve at 35. Front tire kept sliding not sliding, had to saw the steering back and forth all the way through. Would have been more fun if I had on warmer clothes. |
