any body know of some powder coating colors/producers that match stock buell colors? specifically the newer blue? black is a no-brainer, but i am looking to do more than just black. now i could buy small samples from several sources and bake it to find out, but hopefully some of you have allready been thru that, and are willing to share your experiences with me. thanks in advance -Nilla | ||

they were the first to come to mind, so i asked them this morning, and am waiting for a reply. i sifted thru a few pages of search results, but powdercaoting is an evidently popular topic of debate, and found too much. so while i'm waiting, i figured someone else has done this before... | ||

are there any other ways to "paint/powdercoat" your bike?, i've got a 9r w/ silver frame and wheels, and want to make them black for looks, i know i could just go out and buy wheels that are black, but i'm poor, so i've been thinking of powdercoating and other ways to blacken them... I've got a friend who's got a jetta, and wanted black rims on it (yea he thinks its a race car) he simply took black engine paint, and primed his rims and painted the rims with black engine paint....it turned out pretty nice actually, he just took his time and made the paint nice and even....has anybody every done that with their bikes, engine paint is pretty cheap, i just dont know how it would turn out on a bike with curved surfaces....his rims were just flat with no angles or curves... | ||

thank you Rich for a link to a possible supplier! thank you Pete (GSD) for a response. i understand you offer powdercoating services and are not a supplier. i still would like to find a verified 'hero blue' matched powdercoat supplier/color # i could pay a local shop to blend a custom batch, but i would like to find something that allready exists instead of having to 're-invent the color-wheel' i know there's gotta be one out there.... anyone? | ||

The question you need to consider 501, is durability. Powder coat is ceramic, it gets baked on @ 425f and is very durable. Paint on the other hand is cheaper and NOT so durable, you can rub it off with your riding gear. your choice | ||

Powder coat is ceramic Only some of it, (think high temp) the regular stuff is plastic resin dust that melts and flows at high (400f) temps. 501, check in with U4eah in the c3 section,(storm fronts) he painted his Xb twice it worked ok for him (Message edited by oldog on December 14, 2009) | ||

For just plain black it shouldn't cost much more than getting a bunch of engine paint rattle cans, and you'll end up with much better durability. | ||

and if you can put some space heaters aimed at your frame, it will help to harden the paint. i usually do that to stuff i paint. it helps it dry faster and makes the paint more durable. IMHO i don't know how else you could heat the frame wiht out removing it from the bike. ... |
