Just a post while I'm sitting here recovering. For those of you just tuning in, I had a nasty get-off in July '08. Wore all the gear, didn't have an inch of roadrash...but shattered both legs (and some other stuff) by ending up in a fence made out of telephone poles. Got a graft on my right calf because of the compound break that sent 4 bone ends out through the skin. Yesterday I got a revision to the graft on my right calf. It's been healthy but there was a deep cleft in it that would accumulate...stuff. I *think* they fixed it, but can't unwrap it for a week to look. The drain bottle is the most fun. It's interactive, LOL. 3x a day, empty it into a measuring cup and note how much I'm putting out. Wheeee. I'm in good spirits and feeling good, so no worries about me...just wear your gear kids. This s&^t sucks, I do not recommend it to anyone.

I'd replace that with the catch can American Sport Bike sells. |

The catch can idea is AWESOME! I can just picture that strapped to his leg. maybe he could duct tape a battery powered fan to the back of his calf and leave it running, just to finish off the look. ~SM |

Jackson-Pratt... been there, done that. I'm alive too, thanks to ATGATT. I'm one rhymin' sob today, huh? Luckily, I'm at the stage in recovery where I get to show off really cool scars- "Yep, that's where the bones came out, and here's where they put the titanium rods in, and the little holes are where the external fixation rods went through the skin." The thing to remember boys and girls, is that I'm alive because I was dressed properly. Take heed. |

Joe, hate to ask, but which of your beautiful bikes were you on for this spill? (Sorry, must have missed the thread from back then). Glad to see you are pulling through. |

Catch can...awesome idea LOL. Only problem is we have to squeeze it before we cap it, so it has a little vacuum to it. Fractures are all healed though, no worries there. I got xrayed in December '08, both legs, no visible fractures left. Still have the rods, they're permanent...but everything under the surface is pretty much finished. Redbuell - same stage here. "Rods went in here, and here...screws went in here, here, here, here, here and here...screws came out (and one is on my keychain, PERFECT that it's a T30 head lol) here and here...they took skin for the graft from here...put it here...." And what they say is true - chicks do dig scars. Some of those chicks tend to be a little weird...but they do dig 'em! HOPEFULLY this graftwork is the LAST time I go under the knife. I'm tired of having a needle in my arm, seeing a guy put something into the line, they start moving me from the gurney to the table, and all I hear of the three-count before they lift is "wuh...". But...I was on a company bike when it happened. Did it right and didn't hurt any of mine, lol. |

Joe, Having seen your.....'cleft'.....I thought you were going to go ahead and have it made into a holster for a concealed weapon. All it was lacking was a leather liner and a zipper! I didn't know you wanted to close it up to make your leg pretty like mine! Really though, I'm glad to know the mechanical parts have healed, you get done with the bodyshop side you will be good enough to run through an auction and sold to the highest bidder for something other than scrap! Lots of good miles left in ya! I'm sure the wife would agree. I like the other valuable lesson here. If you are going to wreck do it on someone else's bike! Wolfie and I did that in '07 at Homecoming. It is cool that they scoop up the bikes and all there is to worry about is finding your body parts! That is the most important part of wearing gear.....keeping the parts in one bag! |

Yeah, Vern. When I think of you, all I can come up with is "sexy legs". And I think if I went to auction...Kim'd take just about any offer these days. It ain't the years...it's the miles! And since I clank when I walk, and set things off at the airport just by standing in the parking lot.... |

I could make you cringe...we unwrapped it last night. It looks much better than it did...but the FrankenScar (complete with staples!) and the drain hose make it look....Borg? I could post pics...if folks want to see. |

No need for my sake, I spent last evening in the hospital with my mom while my step-dad had his second knee replacement. He had a juice can like yours with a vacuum pump of some sort on it with a catch can and an overflow bag. They had some sort of electrical box that I had never seen among all the stuff hooked up on him right after the surgery. His eyes were wide open when I was going to start playing with the buttons! I guess he really did not want to have me doing that. I wish you well, and hope that thing heals up well. Perhaps we can ride to the beach next summer and tan that thing! |

Actually got some tan on it at T-giving in Key West. Not as much a challenge now, though...he redid it so about half the graft itself is now gone - it's all normal skin now, just wrapped (think 'facelift') tighter around. Guy does good work. |

Merry Christmas. Next year ask for something for your motorcycle ;+} Glad to hear you are recovering pretty good. As far as wrecks go, your's was one of the worst. Just think only one week until winter! Later Neil S. |
