Reg,

I got that in an E-Mail from the dealer that sold me three brand new Buell models in the past nine years. The only reason I even went into the dealership in the first place was for Buell, I never had an interest in Harley Davidsons.

That ad arrived in my mailbox about a week after the October 15th (Black Thursday) announcement. By the way, this same dealership dropped Buell BEFORE the announcement, so they did NOT get any of the incentives from HD after the 15th, and they are no longer able to service my bike or provide parts either.

Imagine how "Special" I felt when I received that obnoxious ad in my mailbox, and you better believe I let their sales manager know how I felt about it, too.

Why not simply ride your bike up to the dealership and when they ask about HOG just point at it and say "THAT. That's my HOG membership right there."

When I bought my Uly I was given the choice of membership in BRAG or HOG. Naturally, I chose BRAG. I didn't know at the time (and apparently neither did the dealer) that BRAG was defunct even then. Ergo, my bike is my membership in whatever as far as I'm concerned.

If everybody who's bought a Buell in the last month would have "ponied up" and bought one a year ago, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I don't believe this would have made a difference.
There's a grievance at work. It's not just the money.

Jaimec...
And that context does make a difference with me. It was stupid move on the dealer's part.

Over a month now, and this is still a heated topic. I personally don't think we will get any more news from HD about this until summer 2010.
Can't wait to see what they do in response to the 4th quarter report.

Those of you that use a Google homepage found this quote on it this morning:

The most laughable element of this entire saga is the preposterous presumption that Erik Buell is done.

I told him . . . early the morning of October 15th, . . . . this is one of the 5 worst things we've been through but it's not even in the running for #1.

>>>There's a grievance at work. It's not just the money.

I've yet to read one word that lends any credible basis to any of this being based on business reason or judgement.

In all candor, I think with Bleustein and some folks gone and Wandell and Olin a bit wet behind the ears someone snookered them.

I've not a bit of ill will toward Harley-Davidson. Their problems are big and their own. They'll deal with them one way or another and I'll be thy survive.

At the same time . . I'm perfectly happy to help shine light into a couple dark corners.

The rats are getting nervous and starting to chatter and I hope we get to hear some more soon.

Time will tell. . . perhaps "moto suspense drama" will become and new genre and writers sing with glee.

Because in this case, those same "brother's and sisters" who in large part turned their noses up and laughed at Buell owners now will buy one because they're cheap (not to mention in this case, getting first crack)...not because they're buying a great bike. They hypocrisy is what gets me.

Many of my Buell customers were offered a HOG membership when BRAG disolved, some took it, others still were already members because many owned a Harley before buying a Buell.

In a number of sales, the Buell purchase (prior to 15Oct) was delayed for financial reasons. In some instances, they owed too much for their chromed out couch, but no matter, adding a second bike takes some financial means.

A lot of riders do a lot of long distance riding and the riding position of many Buell models does not appeal to this type of rider. (hold the arguments, their perception is their reality).

What ever the reason, just because a HOG member did not own a Buell until the price came down does not make that person evil or not worthy. It also does not mean they did not value Buells as motorcycles.

Those who think a recent Buell buyer are some how less enthusiastic for the brand or less worthy of ownership are wrong and they ought to re-evaluate their own personal agenda.

Oh, by the way, it is worth stating,
Oh how I hate, Ohio State
And I say that with the most respect for the rivalry having a wife from Ohio, a son born when in Ohio and having lived in Ohio from 1984 thru 1987 and worked in & out of the great chestnut, err... buckeye state thru 1995, a period of absolute dominance my the
Michigan Wolverines. Go Blue! They've got a tough row to hoe this year for sure.

It gets crazy here in C-bus around football season.... The Buckeye fans can be a little rabid for my taste, but it sure is fun to push the buttons

Wolfy, I'm a lifetime HOG member too. I've been getting emails from one local dealer announcing their HOG chapter rides and activities. I'm thinking about writing back to them with this following sentiment:

"Being a Lifetime HOG member since owning a Harley, I no longer own it but have been a Buell rider for the past 13 years.
I don't mind receiving emails announcing chapter rides.
However, with the recent closing of Buell by Harley-Davidson, some of us Buell riders may feel forgotten or left out by dealers referring to activities as HOG events.
So, perhaps in the future, if the Local HOG Chapter wants to put on a ride for its members and include Buell Riders, they could refer to the ride as a "Ride with Pride" (quoted words spoken by Erik Buell at the Factory announcement of the Buell Motorcycle Company closing). Then local Buell riders would more likely feel welcome rather than antagonized."

Nobody said ALL HOG members. I'm saying that I found it hippocytical that some (that I know personally) who ripped Buell and owners are now buying them because the price fell.

"Get a Real Bike"

That is a very old saying from HD dealers and owners dating back to the late seventies. The saying was focused more to Japanese motorcycle owners. One co-worker actually pulled that line on me and I hurt his feelings when I had my Honda. So I would not take that advertisement as jab at Buell owners.

To those new Buell owners, welcome aboard.

Wolf - Go Bucks. I still remember my freshman year at OSU. The Ohio State / Michigan game that year was at OSU. What a party.

I've not heard a SINGLE Harley rider express happiness that Buell is ended.

I've had, almost to a person, the statement that it's awful and feel HD made a bad decision.

Hey fellow Buellers, we at High Country Buell in Colorado want to hold some 2010 Buell-centric events. We don't need permission from Corporate, we don't even need new factory bikes to sell on our floor - we just need enthusiasts who have a proper altitude that want to bump elbows and talk tough about knee draggin', willing to share some braggin' and lyin', do some lyin' & braggin'.

Pikes Peak is still on with some really special things being worked on.

Bubba Blackwell slated for two shows 17July at our shop too.

But we also want some rides, maybe a Daytona Race party to cheer on the Erik Buell Racing team to victory.

Please use this thread and let me know what you think.

PS. I see an awful lot of red in the Big House and some here may be confused in thinking that those are chestnut, err.. buckeye fans but the sad truth is that what you are seeing is the embarassed red faces of Wolverine fans.

Just to point - counterpoint the title of this thread, and recognize some newbies to Buell, (this guy is flying a Blackhawk helicopter to our Santa's Sleigh toy run to benefit children of those serving in Iraq rather than his Buell or a Harley).

Let me please add to this much deserved and well earned conversation.

I purchased my 1125CR from Bones and Dave at HC Buell recently and was able to talk my friends Steve (09 1125R) and Doug (09 XB12XT) to purchase as well. Each of us had an outstanding experience and look forward to the years of great relations to come. The team at HC Buell is the gold standard for all things Buell!

If there were an award for the Best Buell Dealer, these guys would easily take the competition. Thanks again for a great buying
experience!

No doubt, I'm constantly going some place else to ride.
The funny thing about it with allot of people in Ks,Neb,Ok,Tx. They buy the worn out tires from you guys. \/ enough tread to go the strait aways. We do have some killer S curves in Downtown Wichita.

I bought 9 Buells, 6 Sportsters, an XLCR and an XR-1000 in Kansas. There are some spectacular roads.

I've only ridden Buells in 44 states but I've managed to find some darn good roads in most of them.

Maybe you meant to say Eastern Colorado or Western Nebraska.

Dealers got it......

Baird, which contacted 70 dealers in compiling the report, noted that dealers, by a 4-to-1 margin, supported Harley-Davidson’s recent decision to eliminate the Buell brand and sell MV Augusta, the Varese, Italy-based manufacturer of high-performance motorcycles that it purchased last year.
