This is up there with the guy that drilled holes in his ECM. Sad part is that this happens more than you think.

Looks like someone poured chocolate syrup in the engine.

Drilled holes in the ECM? Why in the name of God would someone do that?

Guy had a buddy do a home undertail kit and needed to remount the tag bracket. "This looks like a good place, hold this while I drill some holes without seeing what's on the other side of the plastic."

"Strange, now the bike won't start."

Then the owner posted up on a Kawi forum asking if that could be the problem, complete with pics of the drilled completely through ECM.

Weight reduction Drkside... weight reduction.

btw.. I had a 1994 Ford Explorer that I abused. I went about 60K without an oil change... just added when needed. I ran a couple of cans of some engine cleaner (kerosene) through it, and it cleaned it up pretty well. It looked like molasses coming out of the drain pain at first...
That thing still ran like a clock after that too.. with just a tiny bit of valve tick added.

I sold the Explorer to CarMax with 120,000 miles on it. Still running like a champ.

I got some other links too, like the GSXR guy that poured NOS energy drink in his tank, the Mustang guy that "flushed" his engine by filling it with water, and some others.

IIRC, the mustang guy had never changed his oil before and asked how to get ALL the old oil out. Someone joked that he could flush it with water.... he didn't get the joke.

Some people should not be allowed to use even basic tools.

That was a good read on the Beemer Froggy, thanks for the link.

The sludge on the top of that engine was amazing!

I've owned three Explorers. Two with the 4.0L V6 and one with the 4.6L V8. You can't kill the damn things. All of mine ran like a raped ape.

I was a mechanic for 17 years, I've got to say that engine wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be. Honestly I believe it will probably be just fine after the next regularly scheduled oil change.

Had a Nissan Maxima come in 34K on the clock and never changed the oil. That was a disaster. They even admitted they didn't change the oil because the salesman assured them they wouldn't have to do a thing for XX number of miles.

I had a hand-me-down 90 Camaro RS with the 3.1 liter V6 in it. I drove a fair distance to and from work at that time. I didn't change the oil for 50k miles, only topped it off (about 1 qt every 5k miles). I gave the car to my little bro who put another 20k miles on until it got towed by the city and the towing and impound fees were much more than the car's worth so he let them auction it! That little motor just wouldn't quit. It had like 250k miles on it and NEVER had anything done internally to it- the only repairs needed in all that time were an alternator and a water pump!

...I wonder what the inside of the motor looked like on that one...

I still have my 94 Explorer I bought new.
150,000 on the od.
Problems are starting to creep up now.

Timing slipped 88,000 (repaired)
New Transmission 98,000 (repaired)
4x4 electronics 120,000
EGR valve 149,000 (repaired)

Other than that I have not had any serious problems.
Well except Good Years tires that give me problems.

Timing on that Ford isn't to bad of a job. Did my Ranger 2.3 About 2 years ago. Pretty easy. Helped a friend with the 4.0 V6 Ford. Wasn't that hard also.

My brother has a '91 Lumina he bought new with the 3.1 v6. He just turned 300,000 and has never had the open the engine or trans apart from changing fluids/filters. I can't tell you how many sets of tires/brakes/rotors he's been thru with that car.

The body is finally starting to go on it living here in Pennsylvania. Shame. He wants to see how far it will go. He should really replace the driver's seat as the foam is about gone on it.

A coworker never changes the oil in his automobiles. He changes filters every 10000 miles and runs synthetic in all his vehicles. His Pontiac 2003 Vibe has 155000
and counting.
His last car a Chevy Corsica had 350k+ with the same practices.

I wouldn't belive it either but when a guy does it on multiple vehicles, it makes you wonder.

I didn't mention it because nobody would believe it, but what the Hell.

I was a tech for GM the last ten years. GM has a tuned port Corvette spec 350 on a load stand that runs continuously under simulated city/hwy mix driving. It has a simulated one million miles on the clock and gets torn down every 50K or so for inspection. It gets reassembled with the same parts, the same oil with just a top up of Mobil 1. Supposedly Mobil 1 has enough additives in one quart to replenish four quarts.

I've heard of a few doing the change the filter, top up and drive thing but I haven't kept up with them.

It was interesting reading the posts on that. They didn't seem to think much of Mobil 1. That's what my Benz recomends for oil. Maybe the Beemer guys know better.

We had a 92 f150 that went 300k with regular maintainance on mobil 1. I wont ever run anything different in a car.

My understanding was they didn't like the Mobile 1 synth for the Auto RX additive, it apparently works best when used with certain oils.

Hearing about those Chevys going so far with no attention blows my mind. My mom has owned several and has always had trouble with them. But then that's only three or four out of how many vehicles manufactured?

my dads first company car that wasn't a truck of some kind was a 2002 toyota camry, brand new. being an old fart like he was/is he didn't like the idea of a car AT ALL. we beat the living shit outta that car, NO MAINTANCE WHAT SO EVER. it earned the name 'General Lee' by the 20k mark.

he turned that car back in at 115k miles and it still ran and drove like new.
