I'm more of a Star Wars fan than Trek.

I did like TNG though as a kid growing up. I never went to any conventions or collected anything but man I thought the show was cool.

I never really got into the movies as much into this new one. I really like it a lot. Anyone else buy the extended Blue Ray version? They put a lot of time into this trying to get it right.

Overall, thought it was a good blend of new vs old. The sounds are right on. The effects were awesome. But to each their own. I know there has to be some die hard fans who hate it.

What do you think?

You know Kirk's bike (before CG) was a much modified bodyworked Buell. A fellow Badwebber was involved in building it for the movie.

Well, that just makes it even better.

I really like the fact that in this new timeline... they can just start all over.

And it can be a little different than the rest of the series.

Star Trek unlike many other SciFi shows has always been very heavy with time travel episodes and such. I am trying to watch all of Enterprise on DVR and I am about near the end of the first season. It's not bad so far. The whole series is about time travel in the back ground.

I also really like the new Scotty.

"Shut up!" "Get down from there!"

We went to see it at the movie theatre. I also bought it the day it came out on blueray. I have watched it 3 times so far. I think they all did a bang up job on The Characters and still adding there own flair to it.

Time, the final frontier - only if you're on a spaceship. If you're on a planet, you're toast.

I guess I should be quiet, though. All four of the TV series had plot holes big enough to throw a cat through, and they're all good.

She was also the hot redhead from GI Joe : )

I would post a picture, but not many of them qualify as Badweb friendly. : )

Kirks bike sound was a bit weird for a steam, electro, fusion, whatever, but at least it didn't sound like a fag.
The new movie covered the begining of the story/saga that hadn't been told yet.

I liked the movie. Funny how Buells seem to be popping up everywhere now that Buell is no more for a while.

I've watched the entire original series as well as the Next Generation. I'm also a fan of Star Wars, Firefly, Stargate, V, Farscape, First Wave...and on the animated side Cowboy Beebop, Robotech, and Mobile Suit Gundam.

It was a great movie that did justice to what came before it. My wife actually was disgusted that I rented it until she saw that the characters were portrayed in their youth. She ended up loving it. It's definitely a keeper.

I liked it. Much better than the last ST:TNG movie. "Nemesis", was it? Picard's clone or some such? Killing Data in the end? Bleh. BORING is what it was. First Contact was pretty sweet though.

I actually hope they DO start making a new run of these films, or at least a TV series.

Yeah, ZOE is SMOKIN hot!

If you buy the extended version you will see all the crap they researched to get the movie where it was. A lot of that includes... do we do it this way just for the sake of the old school stuff and limited budgets... or do we do it this way, with some "real" technology and honest thought.

Prime example is the front portion of the Nacell's. In the old school days it was a see through dome with flashy lights.

The new one is a very dimly lit series of turbines based off an actual "warp design" theory. You can argue the theory all day long, but at least ILM tried to add some realism to the design of the ship in some ways.

The modeling for the Enterprise is AWESOME. Watch the special effects and see how they filtered, layered and hand drew all those panels to make it look hand crafted.

Nero's vessel was 7 miles long in the animation computer, drawn to scale. lol

+1 SM, Nemisis PISSED me off, after a very promising First Contact. B4 was just plain dumb, and a frustration...singing that stupid song as Picard walked away...dumb.
But I guess they had to close out the TNG run somehow.
As far as I can see the new movie opens up to the original ST from the 70s, no where to go except with better CG and sound.

I loved the movie and will be getting the Blue Ray ASAP.

The actors did an outstanding job portraying the characters.

I can't remember the actor's name that played 'Bones' but he nailed it.

Zachary Quinto (Sylar on Heroes) was a convincing Spock.

And Zoe Saldana was ridiculously HOT! It could have been two hours of nothing but Zoe and I would have been just as happy with the movie : )

Been watching the entire Star Trek TV series (Star Trek, Voyager, Enterprise, Movies, etc.) evolve since I was a kid. Found this movie to be outstanding. Great intro to the characters and a good story line. They certainly nailed the personal traits and speech of the original actors. Hope they can back it up with another good one.

I agree the new Star Trek movie was great. But what you also have to consider is that all the odd number movies suck. Here is a quick overview
1)The motion picture. Long and boring made up lots of special effects for the time.
2) Character from series comes back to stir up trouble!! Spock Dies
3) Who did not see that coming?? Boring
4) the voyage home. Aliens come looking for a animal we hunted off the planet. We travel back in time to get two more. Also it took our future friends and put them in our world. Pretty funny
5) The final frontier.... We went looking for god. Lame
6)The undiscovered county. Starting to merge the old world with the Next Gen Role. Becoming friends with the Klingons
7)Generations. The two great captains meet and fight a common goal. Weak
8)First Contact. Go back in time again to stop the borg from destroying everything we know about star trek. Meet the man who invented Warp Drive and realize it was for the money not the advancement of human kind. Kinda kills the hero worship!!!
9) Thought this could have been better.
10) Nemesis. Thought this one was decent and had a good amount of action.
11) This is a complete redo and breaks the chain of the odd movies being lame!!! So the plan works. New life and story lines.
