We have, as many of you know, and some are following on Facebook, renovating our house into a *home*. Last time I checked in, I think we had just got the new loungeroom built and plastered ready to go. The garage was about to be put up on a new slab and our front and back decks were 'almost' done. Here's a small pictorial update on the progress so far. It has had it's fair share of hiccups, but we're feeling a lot better with everything we get finished and signed off This is before and after my controversial regrouting job in the kitchen (thanks to all who made..umm..suggestions )
We have the garage on the way up
We moved the front door sideways to allow for a bigger front room...
We got the new lights and fan in and painted the ceiling grey...
After four coats of paint on the walls, they turned out like this...
and we finished laquering/polishing the floors today
Next step is...steps, for the back deck (I'm over using ladders!)
Thanks Shawn It was a really good feeling to get a couple jobs actually *finished* this weekend. Really itching to move furniture into the new room, but have to wait 72 hours for floor to fully dry...
in the middle of doing the same thing. looks like a great job. what's your facebook acct to view the other pics. even by the pic it looks like your floor turned out a lot better than mine on the finish. what kind of wood is that.
you guy's are doing a great job! it is very cool watching the pics get more and more complete. hang in there it looks like you are almost there.
i must say after looking at all of the pics you don't really have any of the inside of the original part of the house. maybe it is me just wanting to be nosey but i keep hoping to see some.
oh buy the way don't rush it putting stuff in on your hardwood. it may take 72 hours for it to dry but it will take longer for it to really cure well. so try your best not to slide anything on it for a while.
Thanks guys, we weren't sure about the colours, but decided to bite the bullet and try it. Paintshop said they would all make the room too dark, but it gets heaps of light so it wasn't an issue. The photos probably even make it look a little darker than it is. We'll be careful with the floors, we don't have the time to move things around til the weekend anyway. Keeping the puppy claws off it til then will be the challenge. Neverenuf, I am listed on FB as Vampress Kat if you want to take a look. You can link to Chili through my friend list. The timber is mixed Australian hardwood. Spotted gum I believe. Shows up the red tones nicely. Will put up some pics of the rest as we go, at the moment most of the rooms look like a bomb hit them! They are cluttered with things that will eventually have a place somewhere else!
just sent a request for both vamp. i've been a carpenter most of my life and always like to see bare wood. although i can do wonders with wood, i have no idea what kind of wood i'm looking at most of the time. can't wait to see more.
V did the actual application of the floor coating and she did an awesome job, it looks REALLY good. I was a little hesitant about using a water based floor stain/lacquer/whatever you call it, but I like the finished product more than oil based now that I've seen it finished
d-d, gotta love the english dry humor English??? English!??? It's Australian! Neverenuf I think you will have to come over for a visit and a little education mate DD...it's not the patio...it's what you do with it..hahahaha
"And . . there is NOTHING wrong with having friends in Australia with extra room!" You know, we haven't had the housewarming party yet...
"Lemonchili- interesting wood. I wonder if anyone's used it in guitars? We see zebrawood from Australia used in high-end guitars and basses in the U.S." Not sure if it's been used for guitars, I'll ask around. Matt, a really talented guy who does all my serious guitar mods, occasionally makes guitars and basses and a while ago we talked about him building a custom bass for me and he wanted to use an Australian Gum. I think it was blackbutt, but I might ring him tomorrow and ask. Whatever it was it was going to be HEAVY
