Buell has been doing quite well at the track. As with the AMA question, can you race pro on a non production bike?

No, but you are allowed to use a model year for a few seasons.

Rules are some where on nhra.com, I'm just too lazy to look it up.

For PS cars it was five model years from last production, never heard the bike rule.

On another thread some one quoted the rules as being 7yrs using the bodywork from the designated production year. So if they are 2009 XBR's then you could see them through 2016.

I'm not sure how close NHRA keeps track of the bike model years but it seems like a couple of the Zooks were 98 GSXR's. The year was listed on the preliminary field list before the race I guess it doesn't get archived. There won't be a class it they run the Buells off.

I would think that if Buell is not providing any sponsorship dollars than these bikes would not be Buells any more. Like most of the other pro stock bikes, or any other of the heavily modified classes very little of the bike has any relation to the name on the tank. Look at the Vrod harley bikes pro stock bikes. I think they are pro stock, I don't follow drag racing.

Dave the Buell pro stock bikes never to my knowledge received contingency money to run the Buell body work. I think they run the body work because the way the rules were rewritten to allow Vance and Hines to run there was something about pushrods and American etc. The S&S motor was built the way Vance and Hines said couldn't be built and be a competitive motor. It is actually more like a Harley than the "Harley" powered Vance and Hines bikes.

Than they may keep running as Buells. that would be cool. I don't think EBR is going to be giving anything away ; )

Yeah, the Buell Pro-Stock drag bikes don't have a single buell part on them. Just AMA marketing to get American asses in the seats. They will allow whatever keeps asses in the seats.

G2 S&S asked HD if they could buy a V-Rod drag bike. HD would only lease the Screaming eagle V-Rod, so S&S asked if they could use the Buell "name" I think it was worded to that effect. The rest is history you might say. And with that another NHRA/Buell/S&S G2 championship
Oh yea S&S is an American V Twin engine manufacture, parts,up grade parts, and EFI systems company.

i think S&S would be a good source if there were to be a new buell type company to emerge to build a replacement engine for a xb derivative.

While the S&S 160 cu in drag motor would be useless in a streetbike....they do build some very very good streetable engines : )

Besides...the transmission in the race engine would not be fun to try to use on the street.

An S&S Thunderbolt clone with a 6 speed transmission. That's the ticket for XB longevity...

If I remember right there was a 100 cu in S&S Motor that would fit in the tuber's, I don't know about the XB, but I don't think it would be so hard to fit...basically it was just a sportster motor...6 speed.
