Hey all, well I am back after a seven month absence here and I am trying to start my blast (it is my primary means of transportation at the moment) and no luck. I thought that the spark plug might be fouled, so I changed that and checked for spark (put it touching the side of the cylinder and visually saw the spark) also checked to make sure that fuel was coming out of the tank through the valve and sure enough that was good too. I am assuming that it must be something in the carburetor that is the problem? started fine when i left, and it will crank over, but no joy! Any ideas would be appreciated! as an aside, court and troy, your packages meant the world to us; thank you again! |

Odds are the carburetor is gummed up which can cause the needle/float to stick preventing the flow of fuel into the carburetor (and therefore into your engine). I'd drain the gas tank and refill with fresh gas adding a carburetor cleaning additive of your choice. I'd recommend Sea Foam- it works wonders. Let it sit for a while, then give the carburetor body a couple of gentle whacks (that's not an oxymoron- I promise!) with something like the handle of a screwdriver. This can help unstick a stuck needle allowing fuel to flow into the carburetor. The Sea Foam should remove any residue to keep it from sticking again. Now try cranking it again. Good luck! |

Also Patrick, one of the other things to gum up after that long a time is the primary or idle jet. Even on a 500 or 600cc motor these jets are only about .010 to .020 in hole diameter and will completely stop the engine from starting at idle if gummed up. It just might take a disassembly of the carb to clean that jet. Hope it does not but yet another option. Glad to have you back here. Bob |

ok, so i have started to take apart the carb, and there is bowl is full of fuel (so I know the float isn't stuck) and there was some fuel on the back side of the carb so i know some fuell is getting through... and i know that there is spark. but it still doesn't start. is the best option to take it down and clean the carb or is there any other recourse? (i put in the carb cleaner) i was looking at the diagram of the carb in the shop manual and i only saw the primary jet needle and the needle jet... is there anything i am missing here? i'm a bit at a loss... |

A small shot of Ether in the carb will tell you whether its getting fuel or not. |

the needle vavle is probably stuck it looks like a mini arty shell and the floats have a flap that opens and closes it it is what goes into the primary throat of the carb if you pull the pin on the float and take it out it will fall out of the carb |
