Got an email from Stratstones in the UK, about their massive clearance.

Can you spot the deliberate mistake/insult.

Hey, if they want to waste an entire day trying to sell Buell merch to a bunch of chromos, I say let 'em. They can twiddle their thumbs and watch the tumbleweeds blow through their sales floor.

Probably half of my Buell customers owned Harleys or still do and similarly are/were HOG members. Our HOG chapter adopted 3 battalions from the local Nat Grd who have a parent serving overseas and is having a toy run for gifts and a holiday party with 175 of the kids present. Yeah, a real bad group. You will be hard pressed to find 4 Buells in the 300 bikes on the run, but HOG members don't criticize Buell owners. Rather, they accept that parade rides are not a sport bike thing.

Why is everyone on BadWEB so intent on alienating brothers/sisters on two wheels (albeit sometimes arrogant and insensitive siblings) when it was an il-fated poor decision in a board room in Milwaukee that caused this, not that of Harley riders.

So half of your Buell customers are bike-curious? That's shocking.

I'm not having a pop at HOG members, I know quite a few here in France.
I just think it's crass of the dealer to let people who mostly have no interest in Buell get first bite at the cherry.

I agree Grumps. Most HD owners I don't know who ask if I've got one if I'm wearing one of my Harley jackets or a T, don't know what a Buell is. Most often though, they're wearing those silly HOG wing patches. What's all that about? Pretend Hells Angels for a weekend, lol!!!

"Why is everyone on BadWEB so intent on alienating brothers/sisters on two wheels (albeit sometimes arrogant and insensitive siblings) when it was an il-fated poor decision in a board room in Milwaukee that caused this, not that of Harley riders."

Because in this case, those same "brother's and sisters" who in large part turned their noses up and laughed at Buell owners now will buy one because they're cheap (not to mention in this case, getting first crack)...not because they're buying a great bike. They hypocrisy is what gets me.

Same holds true for those HD employees who do nothing but rip Buell about how gimmicky and crappy they are, then when they get cheap, flock to dealers like pigs on crap when they're 1/2 the price.

If everybody who's bought a Buell in the last month would have "ponied up" and bought one a year ago, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Blake needs to start a new site...FAIRWeather Bikers.com

I am too Wolfy, and from what I see/hear from my HOG/Harley buddies and folks up here isn't a concern for the closing of Buell, as much as it is a concern for A) Buell employees losing their jobs, and B) Harley showing financial weakness.

I guess this is me. Owning a new $12,000 motorcycle was not within my reach and may never be, but thanks to the rebate I now have an 1125r. Maybe I should wear a t-shirt with the date of my purchase when I ride my bike, to help you figure out if you should respect me or not. I'll consider this my welcome to the badweb community.

As for the topic of this thread, which is a preferential sale being offered to a special interest group by a dealer, I respect their decision. I consider targeted sales to special interest groups a good retail practice because it helps focus the advertising goal, although, as this thread underscores, there is a risk of slighting the larger population if the targeting appears to be favoritist or elitist. Advertising decisions can be very challenging that way.

I wish you the best of good times riding your superiorly-timed purchase and hope you can eventually find peace with your discomfort at my presence here.

Little defensive aren't we? You're missing the point. The point was, there's some who laughed at Buell and its owners, now they're cheap, its ok to have one.

I could give a rat's ass if you bought one this week or six years ago. By becoming a member here, you've already shown an enthusiasm for Buell and I say.."welcome".

"Little defensive aren't we? You're missing the point."

Well, you made a sweeping and negative statement that was on-the-offense, so that's tough-guy point #1 to you (against the world), and now you call me defensive for reacting to it, so I guess that's tough-guy point #2 to you as well. I'll concede a third internet tough-guy point for your use of 'rats-ass' in a welcome statement, and consider myself defeated. I wish you a sportsmanlike good day on your internet toughness. You now know that there is one person in the world who chafed at your hostile generalization, which might well be all you really wanted, and welcome to it. I would guess that there are many in this community who are working through tough feelings about the loss of their beloved brand, so if serving as a punching bag helps you find some peace, I'm glad to be able to help.

I'm having real trouble seeing what's wrong with that ad.

Some seem to have lost contact with the fact that dealerships are businesses, first, foremost and finally. As such, they will rightfully do what is necessary to survive.

I believe Harley has made a strategic error vis a vis Buell. But I also believe that the incessant whining hereabouts will do nothing to change it.

As usual, JJ, you're a voice of reason.

The "perf'd" tissues are too expensive. I use double ply and a 2" hole saw.

Jaimec...

In an isolated context I have no problem with the ad. It actually follows the arrogant theme that has pervaded Harley ads for several years.

Many here believe it to be a specific slap in the puss to Buell owners. I'd have to know more about the dealership and the timing of the ad to agree, or not.

Not that many of you are interested, but...
The new Fat Boy Lo is an absolute hoot to ride. It was introduced to the press in the mountains surrounding Denver. The bike's been slammed, and the rear suspension is Harley's usual crap. No matter, its low seat, massive torque, and very stout chassis allow you to toss it about the windy stuff with great abandon, leaving trail markers at every turn.

Now don't go and get silly on me. I'm not saying it's a sportbike, but to believe that you can't have fun on anything but a pur sang race replica is, well, it's ignorant.

I'm a new Buell owner (10/27) '09 XB12 Scg and I love it. The fire sale made it possible for me to purchase this fine machine so I did it. I am so excited to finally have this bike. I've been admiring this machine ever since I bought my lonely neglected 06 Streetrod. It brings me back into the world of sportbikes once again.

I now have 2 bikes that are red headed step children of Harley. It just worked out this way. I love my Streetrod for what it is and accept it for what it is not. The Buells are completely different and not everyone "gets it." The more I ride mine the more I really love it. Different bikes for different purposes.

So far this forum has been helpful but very sensitive about certain things. I am discovering this more and more.

I have friends all around the world that ride a vrod and we communicate on the vrod forum. I hope one day I can say the same about my fellow Buell owners!

I look forward to getting to know you all and share information, laughs, trade parts, etc., etc......

Wouldn't be a problem with Hals, since our group, Brewcity Thunderbikes is actually part of Hals HOG chapter. We did this when BRAG folded. Mostly for insurance reasons.

HOG members don't criticize Buell owners. Rather, they accept that parade rides are not a sport bike thing.

The Kettle Moraine HOG chapter is the same way. I attended last month's HOG meeting where Kirk Toppel(owner of Hals), gave us Kudos for doing the Buell "Last Ride" gig. We got a standing ovation from the HOG chapter for our participation & planning of the event. And got a lot of WTF after the meeting, pertaining to HD's decision to shut down Buell. I've yet to hear one HD rider view this as a positive thing.

Say what you will about Harley killing off Buell. But it's not what the vast majority of the Harley riders, OR HD employees wanted IMHO.
