http://www.weaselzippers.net/blog/2009/11/unreal-s eiu-considering-legal-action-against-city-for-allo wing-eagle-scout-to-clear-walking-path-no-.html Unreal: SEIU Considering Legal Action Against City For Allowing Eagle Scout to Clear Walking Path, "No One Except a Union Worker Can Pick Up a Shovel".... What's next, are they going to picket the Scout's house and call him a "scab?".... In pursuit of an Eagle Scout badge, Kevin Anderson, 17, has toiled for more than 200 hours hours over several weeks to clear a walking path in an east Allentown park. Little did the do-gooder know that his altruistic act would put him in the cross hairs of the city's largest municipal union. Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Union, told Allentown City Council Tuesday that the union is considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing Anderson to clear a 1,000-foot walking and biking path at Kimmets Lock Park. "We'll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails," Balzano told the council. Balzano said Saturday he isn't targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city's decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said "there's to be no volunteers." No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path. Rest here>>> |

Yeeeeah, this doesn't make unions look like unnecessary asshats at all. Exactly what do they hope to accomplish by publicly picking on an Eagle Scout, the frikkin' model of American youth? Can't wait till someone gives them a nice STFU. ~SM |

The prez of the chapter has the right name. Balz ano, cause it takes some real ones to to stand up and say that folks cant volunteer to make their own community better. |

I could understand if the city had hired illegal aliens to do the work but bitching about volunteers... what a bunch of FAGS! |

Good luck with that grievance. If the city did not solicit the clearing of the path by the scout and provided no support in real materials for this purpose , then it's a case of a kid walking into a park and playing with a shovel with permission. Sort of like reserving a baseball diamond at any local park. Hope the scout is real photogenic so that the union won't waste their memberships funds pursuing such an asinine endeavor. |

Sounds like the Scouts need to bring a suit against the Union for not keeping the path clear. Had to be a case of Union worker neglect for not noticing the hazards caused by not clearing the trail. A good Union worker would have to notice and report this neglected trail, right? |

The union at NaviStar here in Indianapolis voted down a new contract that would have kept the factory in operation yesterday. They refused the concessions necessary to keep the doors open. As a result, NaviStar is closing up shop and they are all out of a job. The vote was 98% against. |

If the SEIU had done the work in the first place they just might not be getting laid off! Nothing like complaining that someone else did the job you are paid to do but haven't bothered to do. Some unions are the poster child for the worst of this country. |

The NaviStar closing was announced back in January 2009 and the strike ended January 2008. |

Well, if that doesn't just strengthen my dislike for unions all the more. |

Not all unions are bad. SEIU? If I told you they love the marx brother that wasn't in the movies, isn't funny, and whose followers murdered 100's of millions of their own people, you might get my impression of them. But I admit, that attitude has a little to do with my dislike for totalitarian regimes, Stuff I've heard about the union I have NOT confirmed myself, footage of SEIU members beating old people, and the revelation that the head of the SEIU has visited the Oval Office more than anyone else not counting the white house staff. (21 or 22 times I think) Hillary has only been there 4 times, & she's supposed to be Sec State. That's according to the White House. |

I do not like the action of many unions but we should be accurate in the information we post. |

Funny (peculiar, not ha ha) I though this administration was all about volunteering and volunteerism ..... Honestly, I havent had much support for the Boy Scouts of America since the folded and started letting girls in because of Political Corrent pressure. But given the choice between somebody coming to my street to do civic duty; Boy Scout gets the support every time. PS Marx wrote the Manifesto, Lenin and Stalin did the killin. |
