You would not shop for a Ferrari and come home with a Corvette. Nor would you shop for an MV and come home with a Buell. With more money though, you would forget the Corvette and buy the Ferrari. And you would forget the Buell and buy an MV. Rocket |

As far as heritage, what is the relationship between the current company and the one that Ago rode for? Name? There is a 17 year gap between the time MV stopped making bikes and Cagiva started them up again. True, but they started up where they left off. Building prestige high performance motorcycles at the top end of the market, and the bikes of the modern era live up to the accolades of the company past. Rocket |

The MV thing is easy and not even worth debating . . . . we are in a depressed market, it'd going to be for sale CHEAP and we'll just see what someone pays for it. Why debate what will soon be a sum certain. A much more intelligent response than saying they were worth a euro in 2006. Rocket |

The AC Cobra is as English as a Buell 1125R is Austrian or an XB12 is Italian. Caroll Shelby contracted the body and the motor, just like Buell contracted the frame and the motor. Take a history lesson. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_Cobra Rocket |

Have we gotten just a wee bit off topic here? Focus! |

I believe the MV question does place some focus on the Buell outcome. When MV sells it will fuel the argument further for why not sell Buell too rather than shut it. Focus! Rocket |

The "Bristol 6 " used in the AC cars is actually a WW2 BMW design. So, are AC cars German?? |

Erik Buell's a descendant of Germany. Are Buells German? Rocket |

Buell motorcycles came from the imagination of Erik Buell. That's what I bought into, a vision of what a motorcycle should be. What country it is built in is secondary to that, not to say I wasn't jazzed by the fact that the Buell was at least ostensibly "American". |

"With more money though, you would forget the Corvette and buy the Ferrari. And you would forget the Buell and buy an MV." Actually with more money I would buy both the Corvette and the Ferrari in addition to the Buell and the MV |

Depends. I LOVE the looks of the F4, but after trying to sit on one at the Javits Show a few years back, even if I had the money I wouldn't buy one. I would also probably choose a Porsche over a Ferrari simply because it's easier to climb in and out of one than it is a Ferrari. But that's just me. |

With more money though, you would forget the Corvette and buy the Ferrari. And you would forget the Buell and buy an MV. Rocket must subscribe to the fag doctrine: if it cost more it must be be better. Not everyone thinks with their pocketbook. I assure you, if I was looking at bikes and had the money, I would not buy MV "just because". Some people DO actually make informed decisions based on their needs. And while MV does make some frikkin' gorgeous bikes, they wouldn't even be on my radar, simply for that reason. But maybe that just makes me smarter than the average bear...? I don't buy crap just because of a name. ~SM |

The point is neither Ferrari or MV build crap, so your money talks. With the Corvette you might get the performance, and Ferrari beating performance at that, but if it were not for that performance the Corvette would be looked over as just another rather good looking car in an American way made ostensibly for cheap money. Now we could say it's rather shallow to buy for the name, but it's all a matter of taste really. And for many it's showing off our taste that's important to how we are perceived by others. Especially so if we want to express our taste as a show of not just our wealth but our understanding of quality. Usually because such choices show others a window into our lives, and we want people to know that we are well off and wise enough to understand why we made those choices. So whilst some people from many different nationalities might buy a Ferrari or MV just for the name, no one outside of America would ever buy a Corvette or a Buell for the name, would they. That's because the intrinsic values of the Ferrari and MV brands are recognised and associated the world over as something more prestigious than what Corvette or Buell offer, and such a choice says more than it just being the purchase of a two or four wheeled vehicle. "With more money though, you would forget the Corvette and buy the Ferrari. And you would forget the Buell and buy an MV. " More like Porsche and Ducati. (But only proper ones....meaning no H2O,,,,!) (Message edited by 4cammer on November 18, 2009) |

Court probably has a larger room here than Mr. Franks, whose hits probably went way up since posting on this site. Of that I have no doubt....pretty rough to call someone that kind of name off a post on a blog. Anyway I read some more of the stuff on the blog, it was ok. That one he had right, but who knows what else, I didn't have time to research it. |

Dale is, I think, a straight up guy. He called me an but it was after I'm sure he read the post here in which I mistook Dale for Dean . . . big difference. Just to make sure we're clear . . I never called him an . I think that was mistaken. i figure out of the thousands of folks I've met over the years there will always be a handful of detractors. Some I've gotten crossways with for various reasons. I'm not the least bit bothered by being called names. Content is what if essentially boils down to . . . some folks talk, others do. I've always been a do-er and along with that come a few mashed toes and egos and some mistakes. I apologized, with good reason, to Dale. No need to apologize to many of the others . . they've whined for years . . why expect less now. |

Dyna use to play here until he upset some of the Buell sensitive types, reporting how he felt dumped by Buell when his S3 went bang in a big way. His reporting turned into castigation as the saga unfolded and his then new R1 became everything his Buell turned out not to be. Rocket |

If we're done with this sidebar . . . back on topic. No problem boss! In any event, being insufficiently worshipful of Buell does not amount to “bashing”, nor does pointing out that 98% of sportbike riders don’t seem interested in buying one. facts are stubborn things, and your deep passion for Buell doesn’t affect them. And yes, I know who Court Canfield is. Where did I indicate that I didn’t? Did I miss performing some required gesture of obesiance because he dropped in with a comment? You Buell guys seem awfully sensitive. And the truth shall be known Rocket |

Dyna shit on every thread in a more obnoxious manner than Rocketman. He was getting his payback for being wronged by BMC and always took a crap right in the middle a discussion. At least he didn't fan boy about TVRs.
