Willie is pissed that Erik is a better inventor and designer of motorcycles...So instead of selling it and keeping Erik's "AMERICAN DREAM" alive, he crushes it just like a communist would do!!! H-D should move to U.S.S.R., N. Korea or China. They would fit in perfect there.

I posted this elsewhere. "What is Buell Motorcycle Company worth $$$? It has ben posted here and there that there are a few Investors willing to put up the Money to Buy Buell Motorcycle Company from Harley Davidson. Why not get them Investors together and start there own Motorcycle Company, hire Eric Buell to oversee all operations and not worry what Harley Davidson says or does." Eric Buell is a talented Engineer don't need the Patents Harley Davidson holds just Design something newer and better. |

Patches, There are many reasons, here are a few. Much of the 1125 was designed in the 1980's (per Court in another thread). The Barracuda design likely started many years ago. Starting with no patents and a blank sheet of paper, it would take many years to get a competitive bike to market. Ask Motoczycz, Fischer, or Roehr to elaborate on that. HD is in much worse shape than they were 10 years ago. 10 years from now, they'll be wishing for days like today. Here is a good article on the idiocy of HD management. BTW, the author has NOT been historically Buell friendly. http://dalefranks.com/cycles/index.php/2009/08/a-r are-tactical-mistake-an-ongoing-strategic-problem/ This was written August 5th, 2009 (Message edited by tpoppa on November 16, 2009) |

What is Buell Motorcycle Company worth $$$? What is the patents worth $$$? How much Money for R&D did Harley Davidson put out to develop the patents? Should Harley Davidson give the patents away and eat the cost of that investment also? Everybody wants to Preach the end of Harley Davidson, if Harley Davidson can not make it in this Economy what makes you think Buell will? |

H-D isn't going anywhere (in more ways than one) They may get smaller, but they will still be around.... as a share holder.... I think they should have attempted to sell Buell with some restrictions in the deal.... No dealer network... ya gotta make you own... No more access to the XB motor.... I'm in sales... I would much rather get 10% of something than 100% of nothing. |

I believe the majority of Erik's patents were filed prior to HD buying Buell. I could be wrong, but regardless of that...(as you say) they have value. No, HD should not eat the costs. They should sell those valuable assets, that they have no intention of using. I don't think HD will go away either, but I expect them to get smaller in the next 10 years. They have some very real problems with an aging demographic. And, as of yet, no real plan to address it. (Message edited by tpoppa on November 16, 2009) |

In addition, included in the sale should be all remaining inventory of Buell parts & accessories, and responsibility for warranty claims. HD, could then completely wash their hands of Buell. And would get a much needed infusion of cash. |

And would get a much needed infusion of cash. I just know there are way to many H-D dealerships.... we have 4 in C-bus area alone that would be even better... But I don't know if that would work.... a lot of people with problems could end up twisting in the wind until they got back up and running.... but if some H-D dealer wanted to become multi brand dealers it could work. I just think there is WAY to many H-D dealerships. We have 4 in the C-Bus area and over 40 in Ohio |

There would need to be some time period for new dealers to get up to speed, so there would be no brake in coverage. Regarding # of dealers, GM and Chrysler came to similar conclusions. |

USSR has been gone for 20 years. HD does have a foothold in Moscow & ST Petersburg; and there are a few rogue Buell riders there, but there is no Buell Floor presence. Which is appropriate I suppose, because if you try and pronounce Buell in russian it will sound very much like Byiul which is past tense for 'has been' It is a faux pas of the proportions that No-Va was to chevy |

Hehe... Nova = "No va" in Spanish, or "doesn't go". Not exactly how you want to refer to your mode of transportation. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on November 16, 2009) |

They have some very real problems with an aging demographic. And, as of yet, no real plan to address it. Their plan is to sell bikes in India and China ( the developing world). The market in the U.S. for Harley's is saturated, by their own admission. Since they don't want to expand into other motorcycle segments, what else are they left with but to look offshore. |

you do realize that your getting older right? The median age of the US population has increased by 5 yrs. in the past twenty, I would forsee it doing the same for the next twenty. does that make HD shuttering Buell a good thing, no. I still believe it's personal but given that we all get older, and it seems the US pop is having less kids thus driving up the median age, there is some warrant to the idea. Translate that throughout the world economy, which is occuring, Europe has a median age of close to 40, and some of it begins to make sense. |

As far as their aging demographic, perhaps H-D should consider re-entering the golf cart and bowling ball business....... |

"Willie is a good guy and is all about Motorcycles.... I'm sure he hates the fact that he has become the company mascot" That is a good point. I am sure he wishes HD was the same company that once took a chance on a bike called XLCR...never again. |
